I was based in Western Europe 1990-92. Great times, great culture but the train stations and surrounding areas in major cities were always dicey. You didn't want to venture anywhere near the train station in Amsterdam.

Come to think of it, Penn Station in NYC has always be a magnet for homelessness, drug addicts, etc. Still a huge blight today.
