europe is MUCH further in that as you think.
my father in law lives in south of bavaria (not much sun there) and his solarenergy house is producing more as he can use. he does not spend a cent in energy and is selling the overproduction to the energy company and if you look in his garage you will see a tesla there.
so no electricity costs - no gasoline costs.
and we do not talk from tomorrow - he have that since 5 years already.
germany have meanwhile one of the biggest FREE ecar charging stations worldwide.
the netherlands what where famous for their windmills when i was a child can not beat germany in windmills anymore.
the part of renewable energy in Germany went from 16% in 2010 to nearly 40% in 2016 and in the next 5 years they want to reach the 75% mark.
unfortunately Germany does not have a wall anymore because that would be great to mount some solar collectors on.
