For anyone who is in a slump, one of the things you can try to do is look over your analytics and see if compared to 'good periods', there have been any adverse changes to total visitors, bounce rate, visits to your join page, etc. If there is, this would be something to look more into and see what you can do to amend it.
If there are no changes, sure you can blame it on a billion factors (the weather, the news, sports, etc.), but your best bet is to just keep on working hard. There's little need to attempt to read goat entrails if sales have dipped only for a short while. If you already have solid analytics and the fish just aren't biting, don't fret over sales too much.
