I did pretty well with various obscure coins that cost a few bucks to mine but sold for hundreds. One dump sold for nearly 0.5 BTC which at the time was only about $500. If only I'd held for a few more months, eh? It's still a realised profit.
I already had mining equipment and a basic pool setup so the only real cost was electricity and my time to tweak its operation.
I don't fit into any of the categories in the poll.
