There is no basis for this investigation. The wire tap warrants were originally supported by a fake news dossier that the FBI didn't even verify.
At this stage the investigation exists merely as an attempt to get people to lie about irrelevant details to a case where no actual crime is being investigated. The lying itself then becomes the crime being investigated.
This is going to go down in history as the biggest legal farce ever.
