Ya, the sun is the source of heat. CO2 traps that heat like a blanket traps your body heat. The blanket is not the source of ANY heat, but it prevents your body from radiating the heat out. That's what carbon dioxide does - it prevents light rays that originate at the sun, hit the earth and bounce back towards space, from getting into space. Instead the light rays strike the carbon dioxide molecule in the atmosphere and cause that molecule's energy level to rise. That rise in energy is what we call "heat."
Thus, CO2 acts as a blanket. Its stops solar radiation from bouncing off the earth and making it into space. Instead that radiation stays in the atmosphere as heat.
No one disputes this (other than flat earthers I guess). It's very very very basic science. The only dispute is whether the earth is currently cooling, and whether CO2 is absorbed by earth's natural mechanisms so that it doesn't cause large-scale warming. The science is not at all disputed.
