my suggestion form an other thread:
"an other community i'm a part of has 'thread closing' feature on its forums, meaning, the thread remains there, anyone can read but no further replies can be added. not sure if vBulletin has it as a feature but it is really useful when a thread has already been overdiscussed and all you can further expect is just flame or drive-by shitposting."
