There probably is life, but since several things that were key to our self knowledge only developed once (no cell without a genetic code, no bacterium derived from a eukaryote can be found today, sex) meaning our type of life is just lucky and we have a very unique planet. Think about it, mating developed BEFORE multicell organisms!
