Not to pile on my friend but these are basically pre-belle epoque stereotypes that have no truth today. Italians are quite sartorial and hygienic, and both dress and smell much better than American men. Their IQ is also higher, if you believe scientific studies of such things. In general Europeans hold themselves to a higher standard in matters of personal presentation.
Note that I am a proud American, but the above is the simple truth.
