Not quite ! It is a simple math My Dear Watson:
Cloth mask stops about 80% of exhaled virus, and stops about 60 % of inhaled one.
So, if an asymptomatic carrier ( about 20 % population) exhales
100 Units of the virus, only
20 Units becomes airborne, the rest is contained in his mask. A passing person wearing a mask stops about 60 % of the 20 Units, so he potentially inhales a maximum of
12 Units of the original amount. Such reduced load definitely reduces the risk of a full blown infection.
Argument against the mask is akin to refuse to use a condom since it is only 90 % effective.
