I've seen a company raise $1 million in crowdfunding putting out 3 films a year. Low budgeted horrors and action. But what they haven't added to the pie is the ability to create ancillary merchandise based on the intellectual properties or base it off existing IPs such as comic books.

I left the webmaster game about 8 years ago, been crowdfunding $xxx, xxx a year since then in publishing comics, optioned a few IPs to Hollywood, but it is so damn slow and too much red tape. Just going at it myself and the beautiful thing about it, I own all my new properties outright and if I produce my own films/ tv/ web series that is just even more juice to build on.
Aside our adult stuff we are also doing mainstream movies and TV shows ( shooting in our own 50,000 sq ft 4 stage studio)... Over the years we went thru the "gamet" of movies from about 3 mil. a piece ( during the good old VHS rentals days) down to the last one at about 500 K. Barely making our money back... and voila 2 years later, a good buddy of mine who owns a big AVOD platform approached us with almost the same proposal you are talking about ... " Making horror/drama/thriller movies for max of 50 K cash and consideration". My answer was NO there is NO upside in it, he claims there is. Your post here is for the 2nd time I am hearing this formulae.

FYI: I have been to every AFMA /Cannes and Berlin market since 1992 as a distributor until about 2005. That being with staff, booths, add budgets etc.... After that it made NO economic sense. I have skipped AFMA but still do Cannes and Berlin....it is a famine there for anything unless it has a huge budget !!

... but if you have a distribution model where there is some money to be made ,I am interested. I do NOT need crowd funding I can finance my share myself.

I will watch this thread and see how it develops.
