Those companies you are referring to are illegally crawling webmasters' websites: legitimate bots have a user agent that identifies them, a web page that describes the purpose of the bot and they comply with robots.txt rules.
Using webmasters bandwidth without their explicit written authorization is in violation of several laws as well as in breach of most terms of service.


dmca is a business, you can even be an affiliate. Maybe that explains why some companies encourage models to file notices without ever mentioning webmasters rights to use promotional materials.
