There was no bot check afterwards to make sure the image/video remained on the site. So you could upload stuff to whatever page you wanted a link to on your server, do the submit to sex.com and then just remove all that stuff from your server seconds later.
Not worth the effort IMO, but might be different for you. Their links are nofollow, so most would say useless for SEO. But not everybody agrees with that. Some argue it's more unnatural for a site NOT to pick up some nofollow links along the way, than to only have dofollows. You won't get penalized for it at least.

My biggest site is about 625k / day SE and the link profile is heavily in favor of nofollows.
"Most" are usually wrong about SEO, otherwise they'd have more than a few k / day to their shit little sites.
