I've personally lived in Mexico for several years. It's a dangerous country, with levels of corruption, complacency and incompetence only matched by Russia and Ukraine (sorry Leming).

Worse than the government which you do not have to deal with every day, is the common people around you. They are so numb to the aforementioned issues that many (not all) do not bother to help each other in times of need. Times of need include getting robbed, burglarized, or in an accident. They will stare or walk by without calling the police or ambulance. The social welfare structure is almost non existent.

The only upside: rent is approximately 1/5 th to 1/3 rd of what you will pay in the United States.

By own suggestion, if you can make it all the way to Mexico, then go all the way to the US.
There are so many social programs, and private charities. Maybe its not as insanely generous as in the United Kingdom as suggested by Currently Sober.

The plus side: stability, general safety, broader social support that is really needed in the beginning, and the potential of US Citizenship in about 7 to 10 years.

There are several of us on this board including: Tasty1, Tube Ace, myself, and many others, who can share their experience with living in Mexico.

While I do not know you personally Leming, upon request, I would be more than happy to put you in touch with various Russian and Ukrainian FB groups which exist here in the US, and several private charities which help people. Some of the Catholics and Orthodox Christian churches go a step further, and help find you shared accommodation (room mate) among their members, and let their members know what skills you have, in order to earn some money. The fact that you understand English puts you way ahead of everyone else, as you are more likely to be self reliant much faster.

Either way good luck!

PS. I will follow up by email tomorrow morning (your time) to discuss the possible work.
It all depends what you want. Here in Mexico Ukrainians try to get to US and than Canada cause there is work and houses. Looking for the best place for residency is good. If you make good money and want to travel the world, you never want US residency. Than the taxmen keeps following you wherevever you are. If you are 65+, on social wellfare Mexico isn't for you.

Leming always had work online. No need to adjust to a language, search for a job or get a room mate. When i was low on money i just lived on a quiet beach for months and 300 usd all inn rent. Imagine living in Holland, no house or you pay 1000+, you might end up in a 16m2 studio for that. Need a car to go to the traffic jam while a liter gasoline cost 2,50 euro a liter. Or go in the EU to a Greek island, empty in low season and cheap yearly rent. Maybe Gran Canaria has some cheap offers.

Anyway, get out of the refugee route and find your own way. Better sit somewhere with in a cheap house in a nice village working online than in a refugee camp that will make you depressed and cost some great years of your live.

Edit, see it is whole family. Makes more difficult if you want good educationand easy language.
