It's more about being playful and teasing - sometimes.
That shows confidence and lets you say something real, but in a way that's not threatening.
There's also a self-control element. Don't always say whatever comes to mind. Don't always compliment and call/text. Sometimes wait and force her to contact you, then you can say the compliment and it doesn't seem desperate.
Generally, women don't like real bad boys (meaning true assholes or abusers). They like someone who isn't clingy, who makes them work a little but gives the payoff of being the good boy when they want good boy!
