I was walking into a grocery store here in Playa Del Carmen a few weeks ago, and I saw the security guard zip tie the zippers shut on a 60 year old woman's back pack as she was entering into the store. That's how little faith Mexican businesses have in its citizens.

My female friend's locked bike was stolen the other day and some guy told her he saw an older local woman take off with it.

As I mentioned earlier, thievery and police corruption like you wouldn't believe in Mexico. I've been robbed by the police personally several times, on BS charges.
They practice reverse discrimination or bias. As a white (non Mexican) my colleagues and I could walk in and out of stores without ever being checked. The same was not true for the locals.

They would zip tie the bags, have them in storage bins, or do a cursory inspection on the way in and out.
