This country is beyond fucked, my #1 goal is to give a paid-off property to my kid when they are an adult, so they don't have to pay 50%+ of their income from a full time job for a basement suite.
There are so many people working jobs for like $30-$35 an hour with multiple certifications and/or University degrees who are living in a basement suite or renting a ROOM in a house and paying utilities for like 50% of their income. At least if you get out of town a little bit and away from transit routes to the local schools and diploma mills, you can find reasonable rents in safe communities, but the cities in Canada are basically totally fucked places in 2023 and the culture is non-existent.
