My first gut instinct is to believe it's B.S. because it's the "in" thing to do now. A way to gain some instant status or money when you otherwise wouldn't be able to. It's perfectly possible that some of these cases are legit and of course every case should be investigated, but it's happened so often, with so many fakes, does anyone really believe it on outset at this point?
