It depends on the program, and what sort of traffic you send. I am certain that in some situations you're better with a percentage, and in others with pps. But it can take a while to figure out which is best for a specific situation.
I think generally with TGP traffic, surfers are typically more experienced and cancel sooner. If it's a crappy site, they'll definitely cancel sooner. With search engine traffic for general terms, or generic domain type-in traffic, surfers are typically less experienced and will stay longer. If membership includes access to several sites instead of just one, customers stay longer.
Here are a few snapshots off my Stats Remote this year. I wouldn't put much stock in someone else's stats, because your circumstances will be different. Also the rebills are still rolling in, and sponsors 2-5 I wasn't using last year (I mostly use PPS), so it's impossible to draw solid conclusions. But take it for what you will.
Sponsor 1, 263 sales, 799 rebills, $14599 ($55/sale)
Sponsor 2, 520 sales, 293 rebills, $10525 ($20/sale)
Sponsor 3, 499 sales, 166 rebills, $4975 ($10/sale)
Sponsor 4, 230 sales, 212 rebills, $3936 ($17/sale)
Sponsor 5, 154 sales, 61 rebills, $3216 ($21/sale)
