Dialer gave me a virus...
I've had serious problems w/ my system ever since I downloaded a dialer program -- I did a virus scan and nothing showed up... Two things have happened...
1. the system randomly opens up new browser windows to some obscure altavista URL that doesn't work -- this seems to be activated by keystrokes but there's no rhyme or reason to when this happens -- sometimes I can't even type because these windows keep opening... other times I have no problems.
2. Sometimes random letters will drop out of all html pages so you can barely read them -- this happens in ALL browsers which makes it even more wierd. I figure that dropped letters is a virus symptom...??? I remember a DOS virus that went around when I was in high school that would make your letters fall off the screen...
I've only downloaded two programs -- a dialer and download accelerator... so very likely it's one of these programs... I won't say which dialer because I have no proof that it was the dialer ;) I would like to know if anyone has had similar problems...
BTW I've already tried doing a Control-Alt-Delete and looking at the tasks -- I know that viruses can hide themselves from that particular window anyway. Are there more reliable programs for windows that let you see what processes are running in memory? I remember an old program for DOS called sysmap that would show you everything running in memory... something like that for windows would be cool.
