look at the major hook at the tip of that stick... it's hard to see because the vid is such bad quality, but the end of that stick is shaped so that it cups the ball in there just perfectly.
With just the right cup shape, he would have no problem whipping the ball around like that, so long as he didn't stop the stick for too long, the ball would stay in the cup.
