I have a mainstream business installing telephone systems and computer networks. A few years ago I had a job to install a system for some photocopy business.

While in there, rummaging through their storage closets I happened upon literally tons of anti-abortion, right to life literature. I then started paying attention to the their side of conversations they were involved in on the phone. These people were major players in the right to life movement on the national level, by anyones standards. I found it amazing that everyone there was male. I bit my tongue and finished up the job.

When I presented my bill, they paid in cash, and only had twenty dollar bills, but I did not have the $15 or so in change that they had coming. I told the guy that he should just give me the $15 as a tip, for keeping quiet about their right to life crap, and doing the job anyway.

He seemed astounded that I would be pro-choice for some reason, so I asked him what right he had, as a male, to tell women what they could or could not do with their bodies.

His justification was that if he got a woman pregnant he could not make her have an abortion, and he could be forced into paying child support for this child. He also could not force the woman to have the child, let him have custody of the child, and make her pay child support to him.

I told him I would give him the opportunity to come up with another justification than that, because I was sure that he had not thought this out very clearly, and that if he did not justify his stance better than that, I would not hesitate to tell the world what it was he had just told me. He stood by his comments. I kept the $15 tip, never hesitated to tell this story to whoever would listen, and for some reason, they have never requested that I return for further upgrades to their system.
