Barth has sought to preempt accusations of sexism by saying: "It's difficult for women to understand that men only say what they mean. It's because we men are more primitive than women."

Some of the examples given may raise female eyebrows.

According to the dictionary, called "German-Woman/Woman-German" and due out in October, the phrase: "Let's just cuddle" means "No sex tonight please!"
