It depends on your genetics. My first year of hardcore training, I put on 35 lbs of lean muscle. I was and still am natural. Of course my gains have been much slower since. Most gains are made in the first year and the years following are simply minor improvements upon the original. Powerlifters make huge gains their first year and are lucky to make 10% gains the years following. The same is true for bodybuilders. The body is only capable of so much, otherwise we could train to do crazy shit, like lifting bulldozers.
