40% of the US public still believe that Saddam Hussein was directly connected to events of 911 even though Bush and his cronies never did more than imply that and later, when pressed, confirmed there was no such connection. Over 25% believe that weapons of mass destruction were actually found in Iraq.
And if ignorance isn't enough, just throw intolerance into the mix. According to exit polls, almost a quarter of those who voted said that "moral values" - read being anti-abortion and anti-gay - mattered most in how they voted. Four out of five of these voters went with Bush. Another 20% cited terrorism as most important and voted similarly. Apparently all you need do to protect us from terrorism is attack the Constitution.
In comparison, only 20% said the economy mattered most and voted four to one in favor of Kerry. 15% cared most about Iraq and three-quarters of them voted Kerry.
