Cost of most expensive inauguration in history keeps rising

What a shame with the costs of war, the needs in the tsunami stricken areas, the talk of cutting funds for education, the elderly and the impoverished that this administration is going to throw themselves a a bigger party than 4 years ago ($50-70 million by some estimates) and it looks like taxpayers will be fucked for 10's of millions of dollars over what was raised by the inaugural fundraising committee, both in direct costs and lost revenues.

U.S. to pay D.C. for inauguration security
WASHINGTON, DC, Jan. 14 (UPI) -- The federal government plans to reimburse the District of Columbia $17 million for the cost of holding a secure presidential inauguration.

But Washington officials fear that restricting car traffic from the city's downtown and closing two Metro stations will keep business owners from reaping the harvest they expect from the thousands of tourists arriving for the event, the Washington Times reports.
Originally they were just going to stick D.C. with the cost until members of Congress got involved.
