Reefer Madness, the Musical

I just got to see the Showtime original movie, Reefer Madness the Musical. I hadn't seen any previews, so I had no idea what to expect. Having long been fond of the original I went into it with strong reservations, the only saving grace was that they had cast the wonderfully talented Ana Gasteyer as Mae.

After seeing it, I can only say if you'd like to spend 1h 49m laughing your ass off, this is the film to do it. You have 4 chances to catch it on Showtime in May (schedule).

It's loosely based on the original (they do keep some of the most memorable bits) and is presented as a film-within-a-film (parents at a PTA meeting are watching a film which is the main story). Where the original was unintentionally funny, this one is definitely played for laughs and some of the songs are as hilarious as the onscreen antics.

If you've never seen the original or would like to see it again you can watch it online here:

You should definitely have seen the original before watching the musical
