What I don't get is how can some people wait until THE DAY BEFORE the god damn emergency?
My lazy ass would've boarded up the house, shut off the water and gas, given all the food away to my neighbors, loaded a few UHAUL trucks with my family and friends and driven it to a storage depot somewhere far away. Then either rent a house or fly to Europe for a 2 week vacation.

Wow you must be rich and have a lot of time on your hands, because if you lived in a place like NO you'd be doing that 3-4 times a year at least.
Wait... are you saying you'd leave your friends and familly in a storage depot while you go to Europe?
