Visa and MasterCard sites are down!

The website of credit card company Visa apparently went down Wednesday, shortly after being threatened by apparent WikiLeaks supporters who claimed to have attacked MasterCard's corporate website earlier in the day. Visa's website went down shortly after the group claimed by Twitter that it was targeting the credit card company. Earlier, MasterCard's corporate website was inaccessible because of an apparent cyberattack. Supporters of WikiLeaks claimed to have launched that attack in retaliation for MasterCard's refusal to accept credit cards on the WikiLeaks site. Visa Europe, a division of Visa, also stopped accepting payments for WikiLeaks. |

Bringing down MasterCard and Visa's corporate sites, while amusing, doesn't have any real impact. It's when they start penetrating poorly protected card databases from some of the sketchier wallet solutions and processors that they'll have become a problem.
