How Long do you thin you will Live? Afraid of dying?

ive had the un pleasurable experience of seeing some people close to me pass away or come very close to passing away in the last year..it has made me think about my own life and how long i wil be here..how my diet and excercise..or lack of effect my health..what i would do if i came down with a serious life threatening illness.what i want them to do with my bodyy when i die ..etc...not fun things to think about..but as the years go buy its something everyone has to eventually deal with?

does anyone have plans or thoughts on what they are going to do for Zer0 hour?

I don't think about it much. I try to live a healthy life knowing I want to be around to see my son grow up and experience life.

I live a super clean and health life so I don’t stress at all about death. I have seen lots of family and friends pass over the years as it’s a part of life. I live every day to its fullest and appreciate everyone and everything.

I've had the pleasure of being diagnosed with a genetic condition with an median lifespan of 48. The problem is with advances in medicine I'm not so sure I can count on that number being accurate. I like knowing I have a very low chance of hitting old age, really have you seen old people their quality of life suck!!
Dying doesn't scare me at all, even pain can be managed most of the time. I'm terrified of being kept alive but not physically able to function, that does not seem like a good time. Put a bullet in my brain when my body won't let me walk and talk like normal.

Men on my Dad's side of the family have a tendancy to die by age 65. Although my dad has change that in thepast few years. So being 35 now I guess I am little more then half way through my life.
I just accept it, I'm not afraid to die by age 65.

Actually, scientists are doing a lot about it. A (rich) kid born today (in a 1st World country) has a good chance of dying at the age of 120 or even 150 (according to many); some say that the same kid born 10 years from now might not have to die at all.

From what I've read, 150 is potentially very doable and, what's more, that person probably won't look much over 30. It's all about getting human cells to continue to reproduce themselves faster than they die deep into ripe old age. Supposedly though, true immortality is impossible due to certain organs, the brain being the main one, eventually wearing out even in an ideal bodily environment.

It's not exactly on my 10 most important to do list but my fear isnt dying or even aging, it's growing old that I'm terrified of.

I'm not scared of death, but the pain and agony that is sometimes associated with it. Once I get older, I'll get something in place for euthanasia, for if and when the time comes. Mostly people are afraid of growing old.. you don't have to dive in too deeply into getting to know gfy members to realize how petrified most of you are of growing old. Everyone talking about how they want to die young, all the people racing to post about end of the world scenarios and all the people who can't stop saying how things were better back when.

I have lived with mind numbing pain...24/7...since '91 and not a day has gone by that I haven't thought about eating a bullet and ending the pain. I will welcome death without fear.

How much longer I will live I do not know...but I do know that pain has aged me beyond my years...and I do not know if I will not eat a bullet tomorrow...but it does appear that I will survive this day.

Afraid of death? You bet... I almost died 2 weeks ago. I was snowboarding after a huge storm at Kirkwood. Got off chair 10 hiked out to the shoot's to the left past the cornice, and found my self suffocating under a few feet of snow after dropping in. Luckily I broke free just in time. It was a very scary experience. I'd rather break my legs then go through that again.

I can say for certain, I am terrified of death. There is way too much left for me to do, before I'm ready to part with this world.

I don't think any of us can predict with any certainty how long we will live. Death is unpredictable. It could happen to any of us, at any time. So enjoy it while it lasts.

first week i live in vail about 12 years ago..my next door nieghbour who was was an olympic ski team recruit died after falling inverted into a snow drift that was between 2 pine trees....he got dug out by witnesses in less than a 2 minutes but was already dead.

it is called trying to explain the unknown. there is no explanation that can be proved either way so why you somehow try to discredit what i said makes no sense.

PS the thread is about death not growing old. yes you are certified to tell what everyone is mostly afraid/petrified of. you must be god yourself. so you have no reason to fear death. which is why i am sure you skipped over the entire topic.

I'm really sorry to hear this. You should put together something called a living will if you haven't done so already. I don't want to be kept a vegetable or in a state where I can't care for myself.

I have zero fear of death itself. It is inevitable so I don't concern myself with it.

However, I don't want the act of dying to be painful. I'm OK with dying, just don't make my last moments be in agonizing pain.

Actually, about to get a will made where my body is not sent home to American and is burned here instead at the local temple. I don't see any reason to send my body back to a place I don't even live in with an expensive funeral full of people I never hung out with or liked in the first place.

As far as what happens after you die... I don't know. Part of me thinks nothing happens and another part of me thinks my energy may somehow return to whatever source it came from. Only one way to find out.

I faced the prospect of dieing 2 years ago. It was in February 2008 when I was diagnosed with severe throat cancer and not given a lot of chances.

The surgeon who did the biopsy asked me if I believed in God!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

In July I was told by the surgeons, outside the trauma ward, to go home and make plans for the future. After she had read out a 2 page list of Eva's injuries.

So lived with death a lot recently.

Now Eva's fully fit, I'm going to do my first shoot in nearly 3 yeas and getting a dog so I can take him for walks.

All I wish for is to see my second daughter in a good job. Getting married or partnering up with a great person would be cream on a very thick and juicy cake. Holding my third grandchild would be the cherries of all cherries.

She's 9 and has no interest in boys what so ever.

Quite a number of intelligent people are convinced that practical immortality will be achieved within 20 years.

We probably belong to the first generation in history who might live to be immortal if we live long enough (i.e another 20 years or so). We also probably belong to the last generation in history who might have to suffer death (from old age) and see our loved ones die.

You only have to look at the breakthroughs with stem cell technology to see that lifespans are going to radically increase very soon. The big question is whether the cells of the brain can be rejuvenated and replenished. Every other organ will be grown in a lab within 10 or 15 years, but there's no point in having an immortal body if your brain still crumbles from Alzheimers. But just yesterday scientists found a way of turning adult stem cells into brain cells. So, yes, if you are under 60 and in good health, you are almost certain to live forever (just take more care when crossing the road - might also be a good investment to finally join a gym).

You talk about interesting issues. A lot of people are interested in your life expectancy - you, actuaries, insurance companies, banks, doctors, businesses, friends, relatives and loved ones. You can sure take steps to improve your health, such as: quit smoking, quit drinking, quit drugs, go on a good diet and workout. Not only will these things increase life expectancy in the future, but you will also feel better at the present time.

Unfortunately, you cannot predict events like a sudden death from a car crash. Don't drink and drive and drive carefully. Perhaps you should not think about when you will pass away - you don't know when it will happen. Perhaps you should not bother yourself with such sad thoughts. Good luck.
