Why do webmasters do this..

In the header, navigation, or any prominent spot putting "Make money $$$" or any links in general that point to AFFILIATE programs, what a waste of space and tacky IMO. No one wants to see crap like that reminding them you make money off of them buying/surfing porn, and further more you aren't going to convert some random surfer into a god damn adult webmaster. And even if you did what are the chances they are going to be successful enough with it to make you any decent coin from your referral commission? Very low.

Edit: also the guys with gigantic 900x500 header images with nothing but a couple cutout and pasted girls and the site title. This is by far your most valuable and important space and you chose to put this crap that just leads back to your homepage?

People need to stop spending so much time on their sites looks and work more on getting the surfer to a damn tour.

Couldn't agree more, mostly.. we do have a webmasters link in our sites' footers, but that's it ><

As far as the rest goes.. you'll notice that none of our sites really have the "corporate plastic porn" look to them... they're pretty much very simple designs that focus on showing you the content, not how cool we can make our site look. my partner tends to disagree, he believes that the flashier the site, the better it sells.. so we met in the middle ><

Oh I'm not talking about paysites. Although the post nearly applies the same there, I don't disagree with a 'webmaster link' in the footer of a paysite tour, that's the known location for experienced webmasters and probably where most of their affiliates find them from, it is nice to make the link a webmaster referral one though and not some traffic leak. And a paysite with a big header isn't too unnecessary as long as it's enticing and there are the usual members/bookmark/join/etc buttons in place. Whatever gets them to the join page fastest.

It's the affiliates and their personal sites that I'm mainly talking about. Having a big header image that is a link right back to your homepage is so pointless. Send them to a damn tour or something, are you in it to make money or brag about your traffic? Ugh.
