If Obama had performed in a positive way,he wouldn't need you left wing zealots defending him. Those roaring crowds didn't take long to realize what they had done. Obama was lucky that only 37 senators were up for election in 2010 or he would've clearly lost the whole show.
He hasn't directly done anything to redistribute your wealth, that's just talking point trash. All tax brackets have seen a reduction in taxes under Obama.

It's very normal for midterms to sweep the other direction, historically speaking, it's happened just about every midterm for the last 50ish years, even if the President was doing good.

I'm left wing because you think I'm defending Obama? That's the problem with you right wing people, just because someone doesn't agree with you, they must be left or liberal. Well, sorry to tell you - I'm not left, lib or a dem. I didn't vote for Obama and wouldn't vote for Obama.

And I'm not defending him... I'm showing you the truth of his actual actions so you can stop hating him without actually having a reason to hate him.

I don't care what his actions are, for example I don't care to defend healthcare - it's your right to not like it. I would simply point out that almost the same healthcare setup is already working without any issues.

Outside of GFY, most of the people I do know are left/liberal, it's where I live. Personal friend wise, I only know of a couple of people that didn't vote for Obama. Out of those that did though - all greatly support what he has done so far, and without question will be voting for him again.

The roaring crowds will be back supporting him and be even bigger this time.... I guarantee it.

Are you comparing taking a break for 10 minutes to taking a 3 month vacation?

Bush vacationed more than any President in history, he did it during disaster times, he would go for 1-3 months at a time, took several long vacations yearly.. and played golf damn near daily, then he would joke about it - while the damn country was falling apart around us.

Just a tiny bit of a difference....

I love this discussion!

(I'm not ranting at you Doc, just in general.)

Yes, Bush vacationed more than any President in history. We have the idea that a vacation is sitting on the beach for a week with no cell phone. The truth for the President of the United States is that the world doesn't stop for him to take a vacation; He still gets woken up at the same time, still attends the same security briefings first thing in the morning, takes meetings, phone calls, etc etc, and when shit goes down at 3am local time the President still gets woken up. When the President goes on vacation, he brings his entire fucking staff with him. It doesn't matter if it's Bush, Clinton, Bush, or Obama. That's the way it is.

It fucking slays me when people are bitching about Obama when Bush took more vacations than any other US President. People in glass houses shouldn't throw rocks; Make sure your ducks are in order before bitching. I see a huge trend here - Democrats bitched about Bush for vacations, and now Republicans are doing the same. Democrats are trying to defend themselves about the same exact things they were bitching about while a Republican President was in office.

The other thing that kills me is that people say "Obama promised change and hasn't delivered". Well, it was so fucking easy to fix everything, why didn't Bush fix it before he left office? Our economy isn't a two year problem, it's a ten year problem.

I'm reading posts about how Obama isn't doing anything to help Japan. Really? REALLY? How many tens of thousands US Navy sailors and Marines do we have at sea off the coast RIGHT NOW engaged in rescue operations? Golly gee, USS Ronald Regan went through a radiation cloud the other day off the coast of Japan, that's five thousand US Navy sailors right now. The trucks putting out the fires at the nuclear power plants? US Navy. How many nuclear experts have we sent, how many rescue personal, how much money in supplies have we sent? Really, how much should we / could we do? Being as this isn't a United States disaster, but instead a disaster in another country half way around the world?

Before you answer you that, keep in mind that President Bush left us with the largest deficit EVER, and Obama is pushing that number even higher - while we are in a recession.

God forbid he should multitask.

Oh and for the record, no president took more vacation time than bush in recent history. SO comparing Obama haters to bush haters is completely illogical. But then again, arguing with bush supporters and Obama haters is impossible. So... carry on.

Well, let's think back to 2004 and the Tsunami in the Indian Ocean that killed two hundred thousand people. Do you know what Bush did? President Bush, with hundreds of thousands dead and tens of million homeless, "interrupted his vacation" to announce a "aid coalition" - and then promptly continued his vacation.

I'm not Republican or a Democrat. I voted once in my life, for President Bush. I don't believe in either party really. But man the Republicans are so desperate to bash Obama that they are saying he did "nothing" while the truth is this it the largest US response to a disaster in a foreign country EVER.

Obama could rescue a drowning nun and there are those who would complain that he's interfering with god's will.

Just dusting off an oldie. Still fits.

Exactly, People are being so picky. Focus on the Real big problems.

Difference is... Obama didn't take a vacation. I know they don't ever really vacation, but I'm sure they do take some breaks, to some degree.

Truly, anyone that thinks Obama isn't doing anything related to help Japan or anything at all, is straight up brain dead. If you ask those questions to the some, they would want him at ground zero... for clear reasons.

Agreed, Obama was handed the worst shit pile ever... but to point out, the massive spike in the deficit wasn't due to anything Obama did or has done spending wise. He and the Fed didn't spend trillions in his first year in office, they corrected Bush's books showing us the real damage of the previous 8 years, which he campaigned on too. While today the deficit is still increasing, the costs are still here... it's just slowed down because now we see the truth.

Something does need to be done about it... but before that can be done, a huge amount of Americans are going to have to educate themselves on the truth and be willing to accept it.

Defending would be having an opinion on the subject, which I haven't given. What I have given is factual information, such as.. he hasn't done anything to take your wealth which is a fact, mid terms sweeps are normal which is a fact, a duplicate healthcare system is already in action and working that's a fact.... facts don't defend the subject, they are what they are, facts.

Back to taxes, I had no idea Obama was planning a tax increase on the wealthy, what bill did Obama introduce to increase taxes for the wealthy? .... exactly

What happened, and is a fact, is the previous bill was coming up to expire - he did not set out to raise taxes on people who have money, at all. And what else is a fact, is Obama has reduced taxes for every American in the Country, already.

Today the wealthy actually pay the lowest % in taxes than they have for just about all of the last 50 years.

When he speaks today, he packs the house... No reason to bullshit you, anyone using any amount of logic knows 'if' he runs again, it's going to be even bigger than before. Just the size of his war chest alone screams that's going to happen. Yeah, I can guarantee the roaring crowds will be back - they still show up today.

History tells us that Nero fiddled while Rome burned, where is obama today?

While protests and civil wars rage in Libya and Bahrain, hitting the golf course for the 61st time in his presidency, and partying with lawmakers during a Chicago Bulls vs. Charlotte Bobcats game.

That's exactly what they are saying. They are saying Obama is doing nothing, while the truth is this is the largest US response to any foreign disaster by the US Military ever. I just read this morning that two Naval Air Stations in Japan are being used as forward basis for deployment of staff, supplies, and equipment. A SECOND aircraft carrier group is en-route - SECOND AIRCRAFT CARRIER GROUP. How many people is that? Ten thousand?

Sure, we are doing nothing.

Lol, does he really play in his office getup? Tie and all.... As a golfer, I couldn't dream of trying to hit a drive in dress shoes, but all the power to Obama.

It honestly doesn't bother me that any President plays golf, does sports, or run for some crazy miles each morning. It does suck when they do those things, right when something is going down - that actually does require attention from them.

I guess while he was on the golf course he ordered a SECOND US NAVY AIRCRAFT CARRIER GROUP to Japan.

I'm not one to normally jump on the politics bandwagon one way or another (check my prior posts to be sure lol) BUT this whole thing in Japan / Obama has kind of got me a bit pissed....

When the initial 8.9 quake hit Japan I was working my moonlight job, when I saw the AP wire report hit that a huge quake just hit Japan, within 15-20 mins ALL news stations dropped their reg sched programming and did wall to wall quake coverage....

The next morning / afternoon when all the talk was about tsunamis heading to the states (WA, CA, HA, etc etc) AND the possible meltdown of one or more nuke plants that MAY have an effect on the west coast ALL stations HYPED "Obama will speak about this in 2 hours, 1 hour, 30 mins, 5 mins, TWO MINUTES"

When Obama took the mic here is what he said about Japan....

"Our thoughts and prayers go out to all the people effected in Japan. now I'd like to talk about gas prices"

He then spent the next 20 mins or so droning on about gas prices and some sort of gas tax break that will appear in your paychecks.

He really dropped the ball, since we'd been hearing for the last 12 hours that the US WOULD be effected by the quake, tsunami and any possible nuke plant issues he could of / should have at least ADDRESSED those issues (Like his press people claimed he would)

I dunno, I just don't think he handled this situation the right way.

Obama making his bracket picks has been a tradition that alot of people, like myself, enjoy every year. He's a huge sports fan and that is something alto of American relate to. And if you actually watch the video of the picks the first thing he talks about is Japan and how people can donate to the cause.

If Palin, or any one of these other clowns, was in charge now they would have their heads between their legs crying.

I would have liked to have heard something more official about the nuke plant issues. But then again, what if it's say bad but could be, people are pretty stupid....

I'm pretty sure you know he said much more than that. Like he told Americans to heed warnings from local, state officials and evacuate if told to do so. Oddly enough, really not much any President can do, until AFTER something happens - then he can overstep the State, kind of.

i watched it as well. i recall him mentioning the potential for a huge catastrophe and that america pledges to help in any and every way. at that time, early sat i believe, little was known about the nukes and it certainly wasn't as bad then as it is now.

To be perfectly honest I did NOT hear him say any of that, after the 10+ mins he spent talking about gas prices and that magical tax break coming to people's paychecks (those things I have NOT gotten in almost 15 years lol) I went outside and took care of some snow/ice removal.

You're exactly right though there is not much he could DO at the time BUT he could have SAID allot more then he did right off the bat, to me it was just like a "lie" I had heard for hours that Obama was coming to address the crisis, every channel local and national, and when he finally got on camera it was like he decided to talk about his new dog instead of the "issue"

We have troops in Japan, we have citizens, family, friends, companies etc etc etc I just think he should have said more at the beginning, the gas shit really could have waited UNLESS the gas prices were going to be directly effected by the Japan quake / tsunamis (which as much as I listened to from him I did not get that it was linked)

the initial "press conference" was somewhere between 1-3pm Est if I recall correctly there had also already been 1 nuke plant explosion prior to that and two others were having probs as well, BUT the power company in Japan was downplaying the fuck out of it, but anyone watching / paying attention KNEW an explosion at a nuke plant had trouble written all over it.

Days later it's now finally coming out that exact thing was done (the downplaying) by the power company, and not only that, but they have a HUGE history of downplaying nuke plant issues

i've pretty much been focused on this since the beginning, including trying to get to the bottom of what you are talking about- on saturday. i was complaining about the information flow then and peeps had no idea what i was talking about. i think it would of been irresponsible for obama to have mentioned anything about the impending nuclear issues at that time. but that's my opinion, no disrespect to your view.

I hear ya, I've been almost "forced" to follow it due to my moonlight gig and I've been watching allot of the NHK news network online but I will admit and say my days are blurring together due to my midnight work sched....

When was that "chart" first released, the 10 day chart showing the diff colors and radiation levels (not the animated one with the globe flattened out) the one that showed 750 (something) hitting the west coast after 10 days of "normal" wind travel from Japan.

a similar chart was released shortly after that showed that 750 number was actually a very small / non lethal radiation amount, I can't for the life of me remember what they compared it to but I do remember I did chuckle a bit.

yes it might as well could have been irresponsible for him to talk about it at that early time BUT with all the various live coverage I just think it was more irresponsible for him not to have said more then he did.

Key words being here IN JAPAN. What the fuck is the President of the United States supposed to do about a disaster in another country where he has no control? The fucking government of Japan has no idea what to do at this point.

It's about the NUCLEAR radiation rumors and predictions to hit west coast united states, shortage of panic buying iodide..

And to be prepared if the same situation can happen here. as japan is the most advanced and protected when it comes to earthquake preparedness.

Again, what the fuck is the President supposed to do? Fly to Japan and what? Tell them to fix it? Send in some American teams to fix it? (Already done). Supply the fire trucks that are currently putting out the fires at the nuclear plants? (Done, US Navy fire trucks.) What else can we do to help? Send in some rescue teams? Done. Send in supplies? Done? Use US Naval Air Stations for forward bases for supplies? Done.

Seriously, what should the President do? We already have the largest response to a foreign disaster EVER. We have offered every bit of support we can to fix this.

When Three Mile Island happened, did the chief idiot from Canada come down and push President Carter around and tell him to fix it?

He can go piss on it to cool it off. LOL geezzz we are already doing what we can for Japan.

One thing that might want to be addressed is what MIGHT happen in worst case scenario for the USA, if this gets worse. I know the gov doesn't want to cause panic, but I think being prepaird is the best thing. My local news guy said either the USA or my state is 4,000+ miles away, and we should be fine, but he is no expert!

Isn't the solution obvious? Duct tape and plastic sheeting.

Make sure to not seal off everything so air flow is possible. Some idiots wound up killing themselves without that last little bit of info a while ago.

I'm not an Obama fan, but give the guy a break. It's not like he's going to fly to Japan, put on a firesuit and start manning the hose.

We won't know for 6 weeks or so. He likes to ponder things a while before jumping in.

That act galvanized the country. While the government should've been working together and getting the country moving in the right direction they are at war with each other. And we all know they will be until 2012.
This is one of the reasons I have grown tired of Obama. I think we need major healthcare reconstruction passed in this country if we want to maintain a strong middle class, but I don't see the bill that they passed as being the answer.

What annoys me about Obama is that when he went into office he and the democrats had this huge super-majority. The were swept into power and he was very popular as he took office. He should have made job #1 doing everything in his power to get the economy back on track and recovering. If he does that he probably holds the house during the midterm elections and they could work on healthcare once the economy is better.

Instead it seems like they broke out some of their dream ideas a got to work pushing them through because they realized this opportunity may not come along again for another 30 years and in the meantime the economy continued to struggle and suffer.

Well this thread gave me a good laugh. Middle East is on fire, Japan melting, dollar sinking all the time, inflation is out of control (have you bought coffee lately) and people actually continue defend the current one in office....OR ..try to say...just you wait the other party that fucked us for 8 years will come back and boy will it be different!! WAKE THE FUCK UP!!! Why are you so loyal to one party or the other with they both screw you year after year? Is Gitmo closed...uh no? How about foreign wars...expanded them? Gay marriage...ooops? Regulations on Wall St..nadda? Patriot Act..no change? ALL THE ABOVE ARE FOR BOTH PARTIES....THEY ARE THE SAME. You sound like abused spouses...I'm waiting to hear you just say "No no...it wasn't them...I fell down the stairs".
