My Chase savings account was jacked and cleaned out!!! Watch it when you use an ATM.

Just saw it on my online statement. Someone in California in the San Fransico area used my savings account debit card to spend $8200 in several Best Buys in various Cali towns. The card was on me at the time on the east coast, so someone apparently got my pin and card data to make a fake.

Always check the ATM you are using, that isn't hooked up with some weird data scanner or cameras looking at your pin input. I sure as fuck will do it now.

Hopefully Chase will be cool and put the money back in my account. They did it a few years ago when some Korean fucker used $1000 of mine in an online gambling site.

Chase debit cards have Blink on them (RFID chip). The info could've been stolen that way too. Most debit cards can be used as credit cards so they wouldn't need the pin for that type of card.

it's a card skimmer. It's basically a card reader that goes on top of the real card reader. Your card information is stored to the skimmer, and they can make a copy of your card and use it.

its a card skimmer. Copies card data. They then can take blank atm cards and copy yours then use them to withdrawl your money. They also use a keypad cover to record your pins. So check your atm before using it

I had this issue happen to my paypal card like last week.

They made purchases in California and Georgia at the same time. places were best buy, toys r us, and gas stations all in a span of about 10 minutes. i had my paypal debit card in my wallet the whole time so definitely they made a few copies of my card.

i called paypal right away and they refunded all the fradulent charges. i'm sure chase will also reimburse you.

I just found out from the Chase fraud department that all will be returned to the account. I just have to sign an affidavit to the effect that I profited in no way from the purchase of the goods.

I normally don't use that card, but my checking debit card had a rip in it, so I've been using the saving debit when it wouldn't read.

What a sick feeling to know that some motherfucker in San Francisco was running around Best Buys all over the area spending my hard earned money. They even hit up Safeway for about $500.

Someone got your pin and card data - that sucks. Be careful! Some credit cards can be used without a pin. The pin is not always asked. Good luck.

No, the merchant ends up holding the bag. The funds get pulled from the merchant's account. And if there are no funds there, the bank withholds new funds until the chargeback is paid.

Banks seldom take it on the chin, and PayPal never does unless it's merchant fraud, which also happens.

IMO, it's better to have a debit card for an account with limited funds in it. Most banks allow multiple savings account. Put your big money into an account that isn't connected to a card, and cannot be used to cover overdrafts. Your debit card draws from an account that has much less money in it.

this happened to me a while back as well. i wasn't card skimmed though, i just used my card on a shitty company computer that got a trojan on it.

bank game me all the funds back right away as soon as they saw it was obviously not me making the purchases. like a couple of days maybe.

biggest hassle was all the letter i got from fraud dept. about 2-3 letters for every transaction. there were like 30 transactions

oh and this was a debit card but it was business acct....dont know if that makes a difference

VISA has a "Zero Liability Policy" on VISA branded debit cards.
