anyone else doing (or has done) P90X ?

Changed my diet to conform about a week ago and did a couple warm up sessions. Started with the full program couple days ago, on day 3 now and this shit isn't easy.

I took a before picture, will post it with the after once I am done.

I do the yoga-x part every once and a while...

It's a great intense workout though, like any workout program, if you stick with it every day you'll see results.

big committment depending on what you eat now, the diet part could make a lot of changes for you. Besides sticking to low fat / sodium, high protein foods, I learned the importance of small portions and eating serveral times a day. Something I was not aware of. I thought dieting was skipping breakfast and lunch and eating a big fat dinner.

So far the work out has been between 1 - 1.5 hours and you need to do it every day. I feel like if I can do everything (same number of reps etc) as the people on the video by the end of 90 days I will have accomplished a lot.

It also seems to be geared towards people who either are at a good weight and want to tone up or are at most 20-30 pounds over weight. I don't think this is for people who have a lot of weight to lose. You have to already be in decent shape or you will never make it past the first day.

I'm doing part of it right now. I do the ab-ripper twice a week. It works pretty good and I've seen some results. The diet is pretty standard from what I've looked at.

If you are really trying to get cut or lose weight, you should join anabolicminds.com. The site is great and full of helpful and knowledgeable people. It's the complete opposite of this place

Speaking of which, I need to take some progress pics even though I went backwards ( I blame spring break).

those infomercials always get me. I really considered getting it back in nov, but with working and school I barely have time for the gym let alone a full 1 - 1.5 hour workout every day.

I didn't pay for it. I never do when it comes to infomercials. Borrowed it from a friend who bought it and didnt use it. It is a lot of time, even longer if you press pause for breaks

Still sticking with it P90x. It's a wide variety of exercises. In addition to arms, shoulders, back and a large dose of abs, you also have 1 night for yoga, 1 night for an aerobic type workout and another that I think would be similar to tae bo, as I have never done tae bo before but there is a lot of kicking and punching.

I also started jogging again. Going to run in a 10K in 3 weeks. Ran 3.1 miles today, 31 minutes. Still have a lot to improve on.

When I am done I will post before and after pictures. Dropped about 6-7 pounds so far.

Skip the yoga shit. It's a waste of 90 min IMO. Use That as recovery day. 30 days is the hump, that's when most people quit, generally due to plometrics and leg day.

I know someone that has done the program -- twice.

He looked no different than I did after one of my "two month psycho diet and exercise" regimens.

Cardio is cardio is cardio.

Everyone has a six-pack... it's just sitting under layers of fat.

I do the p90x as a warm up on my way to a real workout....

I Could bust your ass more in 12 min than 90 min of p90x baby.. called TABS...

no joke I can breeze through p90x and insanity as a warmup for my real workouts...

but tabs... first time I did it I puked in between round 2 and 3.... now im fine....

simple.. set up 7 stations.. maybe 1 station is squats one is burpies one is kettlebell etc etc... now .... set your timer for 20 sec rounds with 10 sec in between the 20sec rounds so basicly a 10 sec rest...

now as fucking hard as you can... and I mean dont cheat yourself in that 20 sec do that shit as hard as you can.... if it's pullups do as many as you can hard and fast as you can... I like the shipropes personally they fucking kill you....... if you have an exersize bike fucking ride that fucker like the wheels are coming off for 20 sec hard.. rest 10 sec on your way to next station.. then again.. now if you have 7 stations you do 3times each station so a total of 21 times ......... thats round 1..... then you rest 1 min and do it again for round 2 and then 3.....

do that for 2 weeks straight then go back to p90x and laugh at yourself for ever even breaking a sweat with it... when I do p90x I can't get my pulse above 128 doing it as seen on tv... doing TABS I can get my shit in the high 160's feels great.........

if you can do 1 session of TABS a week you can consider yourself in shape for sure....

I do tabs for cardio to get in fight shape.. its great anerobic cardio.....

i've done the p90x program 2x in the last 15 months or so, in-between doing 5x5 muscle programs for 90 days. p90x is good, solid program that provides results.

I did it for maybe four months or so, but combined it with daily walking and lost about 10kgs , which is pretty good

if I remember correctly there were like 4-5 separate exercise groups and I did cardio only and the one with the kicks, which is basically also cardio

Fuck cardio in my opinion. Free weights is where it's at. Some good squats etc makes all the difference in the world.

p90x is a get fit program consisting of a diet and exercise regiment.

the only thing special about the p90x diet is that it ramps up the carbohydrates as the program moves along so that you have enough energy to finish the workouts.

other than that, it's the same as any other *diet*- determining maintenance cals and adjusting that based on energy output.

depends what you are looking to accomplish. I'd like to drop 15-20 pounds. Cardio burns calories. You can only do so much free weights in a work out, no reason you can't finish it off with 30 mins of cardio.

nothing special about it really. pretty much low fat, low cholesterol, low sodium and high protein. Key point is small portions and eating every 3-4 hours.

Personally, I've found the best results with weights myself, as you get the residual effects of weights. (Eg constant calorie burning)

Cardio certainly has it's place as well though.

how is that selling more product? what product? I don't follow what you saying.

I not only eat smaller portions now, but I eat less over all food over the course of the day. So obviously, even if it does nothing to increase metabolism, it causes me to eat less. I use to eat a big ass lunch, big ass dinner and late night snack. Now I force myself to eat a very small breakfast, which when lunch rolls around i am not as hungry so I can eat a lot less and still feel full. Small snack in the evening makes me not hungry for dinner, i eat less there. Overall I am eating about 60% of what I use to, by eating more often but smaller sizes.

What I noticed that I think they should have made different with the work out is the people who were not in great shape to start with. There should have been a "warm up" week. I made my own warm up week, I went light on weights and did about 1/2 of each tape. I was sore as shit and then took off 3-4 days to let me body heal and then I started officially with "day 1". If it kicks your ass the first week and you try to stay on course I think it is not only counter productive to your body as you wont be able to do much for several days while you are real sore, but it is also counter productive to your mind as you feel beat down and that it will be too hard to keep up with.

Overall I am eating about 60% of what I use to, but eating more often but smaller sizes.
diet plans that advocate every 4 hour feedings and the subsequent products those companies push are the beneficiaries of the strict 4 hour feeding rule. protein powders are another, plenty of examples.

there are many ways to eat less every 24 hours. i eat 1x a day twice a week for instance (intermittent fast).

also, fat is not bad for you or cause obesity/being overweight. cholesterol is not directly bad for you, in fact, cholesterol is directly tied to testosterone. cut fat and lower your testosterone.

I picked up P90X a few weeks ago and will be starting the regimen soon. I just need to pick up the weights that I need for training.

You say you are working out 1 - 1.5 hours a day every day? What a mistake, and a waste of time.

Working out everyday is so old school and FAR from intelligent. Full body weight workouts, 3 times a week, for a total of 90 minutes is all that's needed to optimally build muscle and lose fat.

And btw restricting your fat intake will do nothing to help you lose weight.

I did it and had GREAT results!!

The diet is KEY as is sticking to it throughout the 3 months (or longer). I did not do the yoga at all but I did the work outs the other 5 days per week and didn't skip a day.

And you're right, it teaches you a lot about dieting and eating right to minimize fat gain.

I don't buy any of the products (shit) they promote, i just eat healthier, and smaller portions. Eating once a day sounds like it would be bad for your body. From what I heard keeping food in your stomach, even smaller amounts not only makes you feel more full (not hungry and craving) but it keeps your metabolism working more and burning more instead of sitting idle and storing fat.

It works for me anyway, when I don't eat for 8-10 hours I get real hungrey and wind up eating a huge meal. Now that I am doing portions, I am never hungry and eat less and I never feel starved.

everyone has an opinion. I've heard too many success stories from people on here, online in general and too many "legit" before and after pictures to see the system works, so thanks for your input, I will go with what they are saying though.

I stay away from sat fat and cholesterol because I always do, mine is currently high and I have heart disease in my family history. I stay away from those for health reason.

i hear ya, not trying to mess with what works for you. keep up the good work.

actually, keeping food in your stomach has been shown to be counter-productive to fat loss. in a nutshell, your body is in either a fed or fast state at any one time. while in the fed state, your body constantly produces insulin, and other hormones. research has shown that you are not in fat burning mode when insulin is being produced and in the bloodstream.

that being said, i think that is secondary to the total amount of cals consumed. eat less than maintenance and weight loss occurs. once you get to the point where you literally have <5 lbs to lose, things like the above help, eating fatty acids. etc.

I've used p90x... It's a hell of a work out if you mix some weights with it. That's what is nice about it though, do it at your level, do it at home or the office, go slow or go big, even my kids use it - just stick with it!

If you want to save yourself some money, get just as good as a workout, and some kick ass advice from a health nut... check out this guys Youtube channel https://youtube.com/user/scooby1961

i couldn't care less what a steroid freak has to say about nutrition. fact is, my experience is my own, i am writing about that. not what someone tells me about something. either way, you are more than free to continue to carry around tupperware meals everywhere you go so you can eat every 3-4 hours

a good research study on intermittent fasting

Does intermittent fasting preserve muscle mass during weight loss?
http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/2...?dopt=Abstract

In sum, intermittent CR and daily CR diets appear to be equally as effective in decreasing body weight, fat mass, and potentially, visceral fat mass. However, intermittent restriction regimens may be superior to daily restriction regimens in that they help conserve lean mass at the expense of fat mass. These findings add to the growing body of evidence showing that intermittent CR may be implemented as another viable option for weight loss in overweight and obese populations.
