Bizarre pornography raid underscores Wi-Fi privacy risks
Bizarre pornography raid underscores Wi-Fi privacy risks
Password-protect your wireless router, or risk falling victim to villains BUFFALO, N.Y. ? Lying on his family room floor with assault weapons trained on him, shouts of "pedophile!" and "pornographer!" stinging like his fresh cuts and bruises, the Buffalo homeowner didn't need long to figure out the reason for the early morning wake-up call from a swarm of federal agents. That new wireless router. He'd gotten fed up trying to set a password. Someone must have used his Internet connection, he thought. "We know who you are! You downloaded thousands of images at 11:30 last night," the man's lawyer, Barry Covert, recounted the agents saying. They referred to a screen name, "Doldrum." "No, I didn't," he insisted. "Somebody else could have but I didn't do anything like that." "You're a creep ... just admit it," they said. Law enforcement officials say the case is a cautionary tale. Their advice: Password-protect your wireless router. FULL STORY ![]()

That doesn't work. MAC addresses are easily spoofed. WEP protection also doesn't work.
WPA/WPA2 is the only way to go protecting your home/office router

I hacked my own network that happened to be a WEP with backtrack. I couldn't get it done when i reset it with a WPA, WPA2-PSK security type. You're right, better lock that shit down to china town :2cents.

Sounds more like a cautionary tale of the police state in action.
As for the strong door suggestion ... in some jurisdictions, a door that's considered overly secured, such as a commercial grade door on a residence, by the authorities, itself is illegal leading to more charges being tacked on. Ron

Rather be overly secured than inadequately protected. Interesting part is the action of the police, guns blazing without even considering alternatives. Whoever DL the images must have done it from a Fed CP sting site. ![]()

The government will at some point make it illegal for people to have doors that can't be broken down
