Who is sick of the cable companies ?

Cable companies, especially Comcast are literally ripping open billfolds of their customers.

I am absolutely amazed though how every day I at least run into 1-2 people who tell me flat out they are paying $80-$120 for what I can get for them for $63 with extra channels and benefits and they turn it down. The main reason ?

"We've been with Comcast a long time, I know they screw use but we are used to it"

Our era will be the type that will promotion hop it is THAT SIMPLE.

It is personally worth it to ME to change Television providers every couple years if it saves me $50 a month - what about you guys ? Stuck in your ways or willing to change ?

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Shameless Self promotion :

215 Channels
ALL PREMIUMS FREE FOR 3 MONTHS
SHOWTIME FREE FOR A YEAR

NO DVR

1 TV - $34.99
2 TV - $40.99
3 TV - $46.99
4 TV - $52.99

WITH "TOTAL HOME DVR" meaning the DVR works in every room in the house

1 TV - $41.99
2 TV - $50.00
3 TV - $56.99
4 TV - $62.99

IF YOU ADD ON $5 a MONTH WHICH GIVES YOU ENCORE FOREVER (ONE PACKAGE LEVEL UP) YOU GET NFL SUNDAY TICKET FREE FOR THE YEAR. IF THERE IS A LOCKOUT, YOU GET NEXT SEASON FREE ! THAT MEANS YOU DO NOT MISS A SNGLE FOOTBALL GAME ALL YEAR

What do you get for $60 with Comcast ? BASIC CABLE with 3 TV SETS and Junky Boxes that go out all the time, channels are missing, and a total lack of programming selection. Not to mention very few sports ...

DirecTV customers seriously do NOT switch to Dish - If they do, on rare occasions, they come back. DISH customers who switch to DirecTV never come back

People gotta get sick of paying so much for their cable ... Can't wait until we go to pay per channel viewing, my guess is inside 10 years and it will be through the internet as more and more TV Sets are web enabled

and what is the cost after the 1 yr. Comcast has specials for new customers for a yr too.

As for the programming, you do realize that HBO on Comcast shows the same as HBO on Dish and Direct.

And I'm still with Comcast/Xfinity because of the internet speeds they offer, no other service around here comes anywhere close to the speeds.

Wow, nice speeds - I only get 20 here, they offered me 50 or 100 can't remember which but it was $200 a month ... Figured 20 mbps was plenty for me

You should keep your internet with Comcast and then use DirecTV for the cable portion. You don't HAVE to get cable just because you have the internet just like you don't have to have a phone just because you have DSL.

Yes, I realize that too ... Comcast Service with 1 TV set for the same programming is about $88 a month plus $7.95 per additional TV and HD programming is an additional fee, after all promos with DirecTV it is about $68 for one TV.

You save $34 a month for the first year, if you have good credit you save an additional $19 a month for the second year. So basically your bill increases $15 a month after year one and $19 after the 2nd year (which is when you are out of contract)

i wish i can switch but comcast is not only the only game in town it's pure shit in Palm Beach. The only reason I put up with the crappy DVR and TV is because I live with a no-spine person who can't give up TV for shit.

The internet is slightly better than AT&T though

Cable tv is the biggest ripoff around. You pay a certain amount for the 1 year then it doubles after it is up. To bad for me, in my building it is either to use the one I am using, or use the buildings cable which has 10 channels. I have done the 'I'm gonna change companies' thing a few times and they lowered the rates. But they already know by now that its not happening.

i worked for a cable company. they scam their customers worse then oil companies.

they make people pay monthy fees for a TV tuner (the set top box.) All TVs already have tuners built in. Even if you need a special one, theres no excuse in the world you shouldnt be able to purchase it.

worse, they charge monthy fees for DVR. thats nothing but software inside the set top.

when a channel gets popular, they move it to a more expensive package. that forces people to buy a package of channels just to see one of them.

they offer the discount packages for a limited time, only to customers who are new, or are with competition but coming back, or people who disconnect. People who stay loyal pay the highest prices.

So if you want the lowest possible cable bill, then you have to play a game. when you lose your discount, tell your provider to disconnect. they will extend your discount. When it expires again, they wont extend it a second time. Leave them. Get a discount at a second provider. repeat process. when you exhaust your discount at provider #2, provider #1 will give you a discount for coming back.

but you shouldnt have to do this shit. Cable is a SCAM & i can't wait for the day the internet destroys their business model.

Josh I agree ... However Direc TV has more stability - you get 3 years of discounted pricing before you get any kind of 'nothing we can do for you'

Also, the channels don't disappear into a higher bracket when they get popular. This IS the higher bracket. The only difference between the one I showed you and the one that gets you Sunday ticket for $5 more a month is Encore is added, that is it.

Also realize that no matter how many TV sets you have ... Bottom line is, flat out, DirecTV is cheaper short & long term at full prices plus their discounts are not 6 months they are for a year - you do NOT HAVE TO bundle, but you can ...

Eventually cable will be destroyed by something similar to Hulu but they TOO will HAVE TO HAVE BOXES hooked up to each tv unless they are ALL internet ready TV Sets. Let's be realistic. People are not going to throw out there old TV sets in the garage to spend $700, $800, or even $400 to have a TV set in their garage to change TV providers to an internet based company - which means boxes will be required ...

I sure as shit could sell a product very well - if they were priced right, that charged per channel. The technology just is not there yet and too much money is made by corporate America so loyalist go to streaming online and cut cable, pay for sports packages online like MLB ... or people to continue to pay $65 + for BASIC BASIC cable on one tv set, with two free digital adapters which I have heard through the grapevine go to $5 each within less than a year ...

DirecTV is da clear winner - and I got the ticker baby

made the switch to DirectTV and love it dont care for the ATT DSL connection.

Had charter nothing but disrupted services for 3 years complained to corporate about dropped internet, lag or no channel change as well as dropped phone connection. Something to do with a bad voltage connection from the telephone pole to my direct line.

Corporate made it up after fixing it gave me a 99.00 a month COMPLETE bundle for 2 years ok that's cool, I stuck to what I had which was basic.

What they didn't tell me was if I moved it doesn't carry over with me.

I moved they came reinstalled bla bla. My bill goes from 99.00 first month, 269.00 and capped off at 273.00 or so for about 6 months.

Funny thing about it all this is this was right after they filled for bankruptcy, coinkidink?

So until another provider comes in this area or I move I'll stick to what I have.

the sad part is, the cable companies & the media companies collude to keep the business model in place.

Even worse, they are merging. Comcast recently bought NBC. The feds are so fucking clueless. They do nothing to protect consumers from these predatory companies.

God forbid apple becomes the premier provider of content.

I don't watch TV anymore, because it pisses me off too much. We have a few English channels which all suck (eg. al-Jazeera news is pre-recorded and a week old), then a couple which are half Thai, half English. The latter will sometimes play a good movie in English.

Problem is, about 40 mins in, the asses will switch the movie over to Thai, and sub-titles to English. You're already into the movie though, so figure what the hell, at least you have subtitles. Then 15 mins later the asses change the subtitles to Thai too!

Pissed me off one too many times, so now the only TV & movies I watch are online. You can get pretty much anything online nowadays anyway.

I pay over $200 a month for Cablevision, and the quality has been deteriorating over the years. The internet and phone drops out constantly, and watching TV gets like a slideshow sometimes.

There's nothing I can do about it. I won't get satellite(and can't). Fios isn't available in my area(yet) -- and the other option is Uverse, but there's no way I'll ever give AT&T another penny.

I have to just suck on it right now.

I don't watch TV, so there's no need to invest in cable here. Time Warner is pretty expensive, though.

I've seen people apartment hop, that's always a little odd to me. Moving can easily cost $1-5k, even if you do all of the work your self, and people will do it to save $15-50 a month. I've never heard of people refusing cable hopping though. Doesn't really take any work at all and easily pays for itself.

I pay $70 for cable Internet and phone, $10 for Netflix and during the show season another $10 for Hulu.

The days of "channels" are numbered.. if you know what I mean.

The idea of having "channels" already sounds to me like something a wizzled old grave digger should be rambling about. And I'm so far behind all of the new tech, it's not even funny.

Cable companies have to maintain hard wire connections, satellite companies have to launch billion dollar satellites. I still think satellite providers spend less. You launch your sat, sell to millions and millions, blam. With cable you have to maintain a big network of cabling and fiber for every area.

Cable companies are greedy idiots who will not survive. I look for cable companies to be offering internet ONLY in the coming years (or to not exist).

They might hang on and do real well if they evolve properly and sell on demand content instead of trying to have "channels".
