Vendzilla stop being a pussy. The only reason Americans are for the war they are in today is they can stand back and fight from miles away. If they had to actually fight and risk their lives to the extent that their enemies do they would all be running back to the US with their tails tucked between their legs.

The thing is though that those people who are the moral equivlent to the founding fathers haven't changed, their message has been consistent all along. However the United States has changed from an economic powerhouse and the land of the free to a land of trained murderers thinking they are any better than any other murderer or rapist out there (including Osama Bin Laden) and using their advanced weaponry and uneven fire power to bully the weaker people in the world.

But to address your point, sweet, new technology is cool, but that does not mean we needed a super arms build up costing us our entire Country. They would have built up either way, they would have went bankrupt either way, even if they didn't build up, they were already fucked.

Which is the actual point, the actual result, the true facts to what happened - ie: America being bankrupt. If you support any part of what happened with the cold war through the 80's then you directly support our Country going bankrupt, because THAT IS THE ONLY THING THAT HAPPENED, as a result of all the policies/buildup, etc related to Reagan.
