He's not wrong.

It's a problem that has to be looked at and solved.

Right now it's cheaper for corporations to hire the smart and desperate workers from the 6.7 billion that are not americans. Their educational systems are just as good as ours, in an age where information flows so cheaply, and statistically there are many more people smarter than our average people out there to chose from.

Our nation chose to glorify stupidity and demean eductaion and smartness - so we cant be surprised when our choice to be dumber has consequences.

You're too close to home. There's a bigger picture.
The problem is orchestrated, cold and calculated, scripted.
They don't think like you do.

I have a quick question about all these educational rankings we here about where America is like 30th or something.

How is that determined exactly? Are students sent to a centralized location and tested. Or does each country submit their own results?

I'm assuming countries submit their own results, which means the rankings are bullshit. Do you really think China posts honest numbers?

I know some group goes around and collects numbers, but even then, you know certain countries feed them false data to make themselves look better.

I'm not saying America has the best education system, but those rankings are probably about as accurate as ratio screenshots posted on GFY.

I'm not talking about them.

I'm talking about us.

They already won, we lost, they got the wealth, we got the cost.

But, we will still have to solve the problem of our dumbness.

Because they sure as fuck aint. Since it wont be them, it has to be us.

I'll bet you can get a lot of people to sign on to that. That sounds american as all get out.

What do you figure we're really at? Like, 2nd or 3rd maybe, if it weren't for the book cookin? 10th? 29th?

The problem has been the dumbing down of Americans to the point most don't get it.
50% of high school graduates are functionally illiterate...that's of the 40-70% of total number who actually graduate...

The arguments for the illegal immigrant invasion make sense and recently Greenspan admitted he didn't know what the fuck he was thinking...on cspan no less.

I am starting to market to other languages because soon it will b hard for most people here in US...to afford a room to rent much less a porn membership...

I am come from blue blood lines in the south, not bragging, and I can tell you my despicable cousins are licking their chops waiting for the 2nd shoe to drop...the family will absolutely bank when things tank...a recent visit back to the georgia islands - i was appalled...holdings are expanding even now...while poverty escalates all around them...outside their "compounds."

on lighter news had some good signups this week and seems people remember what DVDs are...again.

Another issue at hand here is that big companies go to places like India to recruit their engineers. These engineers jump at the chance to come to America to work and will work for less. One of the reasons is that the Indian government gave them a free education so they walk away with a degree and no debt while the US student is likely close to $100,000 in debt and will need to make more money so that they can start paying that back.

My point was asking how the rankings are determined. Questioning how data is determined is not a sign of arrogance.

I never defended the American educational system, although, you'll get out of it what you put into it. If a student takes his education seriously in America, I think it will be on par with any other country. The difference comes in because we don't force our kids to do well. If a kid wants to slack off, we generally let them. In other countries, such things are not tolerated as much, both by the culture and by the parents.

Not to mention that they are effectively indentured labor, held captive by their work visa.

So not only are they smart and well educated and desperate, they won't ever talk back to management, and will do what they are told without asking questions.

Bright motivated fearful salary slaves on the visa chain. The ideal employee.

Yeah, sorry to be snarky man, my point was, you are not making a strong argument. Even if true, it doesn't significantly affect hiring patterns or employment.

Thing is, enough different people have done the rankings that they are probably close enough to truth for government work. We probably really are where we have been ranked.

This ranking made the news earlier this year - reading, science, and math - we were #33 in reading, 27 in math, and 22 in science.

http://www.geographic.org/country_ra...09_o ecd.html

We did this to ourselves. We chose to glorify dumbness.

Oh please, look at what website that story comes from - Kookville.com aka PrisonPlanet.com

Baby Boomers were no smarter than Gen-X'ers - the difference between a Gen-X'er and a Baby Boomer is that when Baby Boomers entered the workforce the United States was #1 in everything, fresh off victory in WWII. The average high school/college graduate dolt in the 1960's could get a well paid job in any number of industries, steel industry, auto industry, all kinds of manufacturing and all service industries that benefitted from such a strong economy.

The smart educated kids today are doing great just like the smart educated baby boomers did great - i.e. Mark Zuckerbergs of the world.

You need jobs for the vast majority of people who are average - because that's what the vast majority of people are.

what a fucking mess and the mess has nothing to do with any conspiracy by the Jews, bankers, Illuminati, globalists, blah blah blah

There are lots of other factors - this young generation they call the Millenials raised by Baby Boomer parents who were spoiled brats themselves, created a generation of useless little emo fags who were told they were like snowflakes, special and unique and beautiful, just by being 'you', raised playing sports where the score wasn't important, winning doesn't matter, just participating is enough because of course you're a unique little snowflake who's special even if you can't tie your own shoe laces in the 9th grade!

Baby Boomers don't like admitting they're getting old so they encourage their little snowflakes to keep living at home and this generation thinks there's nothing wrong with living at home doing nothing but smoking weed and playing XBox when you're closing in on 30 years old.

Yes, it's prison planet, and it's an old story, if I recall correctly greenspan said this, or started saying it, weeks ago.

But, greenspan did say it. It went around the aggregators back then.

Here's where I think I first read it - at least, this page come up purple in the google serp when I searched "greenspan jobs".

http://www.foxbusiness.com/markets/2...eyre-out-work/

It was all over.

So, your sayin they are smart enough just lazy as fuck and unmotivated. Maybe stoned, or ah, ya know, not taking their adhd meds.

Sure, I'll buy that. Not quite sure why it makes a difference, employment wise.

Maybe if the 'rents give them a stern talking to they would get motivated.

Or maybe they don't want to work for the empire? And them indian nerds are just as eager as fuck to work for the man.

Hey, I get that - I don't want to work for the man either, I'd rather sell porn.

So, maybe there's a deep moral and philosophical issue, it's not just dumbness and lack of motivation.

Would the kids bust the books if they believed that there were jobs worth doing in america?

I had this now dead friend, rather rich fellow. Anyway, when he found he was dying he left for the Philippines to find a wife for his mixed-daughter. About 2 years later he returns with a wonderful lady, used to work for the gov, spoke great English.

Point being... his 2nd grade daughter goes with him, comes back with the 4th grade still going, takes a placement test, and is put into 5th grade when the school year ended. 1 month in 5th grade, they moved her to 7th, then 2 months later to 6th. She was about 1.5 grade levels ahead of our kids, in less than 2 years of schooling.

They teach faster, meaning they learn faster, thus they have time to go over everything more, that's the difference... it's not that they're learning different stuff, they're just learning it faster and better.

let's say we whipped our kids into shape academically, i'm not sure about numbers of kids who graduate high school and college each year but let's say we doubled the number of kids who graduate high school and make it to college and get a degree of some kind.

so now we have hundreds of thousands of more kids each year with BA's, BSc, Comp Sci, graphic arts degrees, engineering degrees - where are the jobs for them?

It's bs, it doesn't matter if we have more smart people, the jobs will still be going offshore to those with similar degrees who work cheaper.

I'm old and I remember being in high school and in my geography class the topic of 'globalization' and also robots/automation taught/discussed and I remember asking myself if all these jobs that were around 25 years ago were going to be replaced by offshore workers and robotics what the hell were all these people going to do to make a good living? And the teacher I remember talking about how this was a great thing, how we'd only be working 4 day work weeks(making the same amount of money), how Americans would be re-trained/educated for different types of jobs, new technology. We have our new technology and a ton of those jobs are being farmed out too and not everybody can be an adult webmaster or an Ebay power seller.

I agree, greenspan's line is exactly the kind of manipulative rhetoric we can expect from the plutoocrats and the corporatists, blaming americans for the lack of jobs when their policies and theft is the primary cause.

However, like I said to the other guy, THEY WON, WE LOST, so we are still going to have to figure out some solutions, because they won't.

Your teachers then were not wrong about the possibilities, they however did not understand what the plutocrats were doing and going to do. Some 30 years ago we turned down the path of plutocrat rule, taking the easy road of short term pleasure and trusting the rich to guide the country.

The rich stole the future, and we let them do it. Now we pay the price.

But, the rich are unreachable and untouchable and they will not help. We can't get revenge and we can't get the wealth back.

We have to smarten up and solve this on our own.
