FDA: Are They Nuts or On Drugs?

Been noticing lately the FDA cracking down on stuff like the health benefits claims of those marketing real food, fresh produce and other non-processed edibles, as well as raw milk, herbs and even regular spices.

But is this serious? The FDA claims this company's Walnuts are technically drugs and should be regulated or removed from the market or something...

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/arti...=feeds-newsxml

Geeze - I thought the EPA was in corporate pockets - I guess the FDA works for big pharma, or big Food? Seems like they want everything advertised the same whether it's processed, fresh, real, fast-food, GMO or whatever...

Walnuts are drugs...

:D

i have zero issue with fda doing this. fact is, they have a HUGE job policing label claims. imagine the misuse of being able to label wtfever with claims such as reducing cancer, etc.

if not, pretty soon jack in the box will be saving lives with its curly fries.

codex alimentarius - ban everything that's good for you and allow everything that's not. If it's natural it's not good. If it's genetically modified and/or patented and approved then it's good.

this is labeling, not banned substances.

The FDA is crooked cocksuckers, for sure. Openly in bed with big tobacco, then illegally seizing shipments of electronic cigarettes which are saving 100s of 1000s of lives AND spreading clearly bad information about them to save big tobacco tax revenues.

They WILL kill you for a dollar.

Not that long ago Cheerios had the label on it that it MAY Help reduce cholesterol. Endorsed by the FDA.

I worked for a Pharma company that was pissed about that and got connected to others working to get it removed.

Its no longer on the boxes that I have seen.

But while the claims are backed up by research, including 35 published medical papers supporting assertions that eating walnuts improves vascular health and may reduce risk of heart attacks, the FDA is said to have insisted the company is 'misbranding' its foods because the 'product bears health claims that are not authorised by the FDA'.

[A]lmost everyone has eaten cholesterol-lowering foods like walnuts, salmon, and oatmeal. But what's a plant sterol or stanol? And do you really want to eat it?

Most experts say yes. "Eating sterol and stanol-containing foods is an easy way to lower your LDL cholesterol, which helps reduce the risk of heart disease," says Ruth Frechman, RD, a spokeswoman for the American Dietetic Association (ADA)....

The FDA is where you go to buy the labeling you want. If you're cynical I mean. Maybe Diamond missed a payment.

I eat them all of the time for the Omega 3, but I knew that before I saw the label.

How much do you think chef boyardee had to pay to be allowed to claim there are "servings of vegetables" in those cans?

That's silly. Hopefully the boss at the FDA will clear that up.
I am glad to se the FDA trying because so many people
get completely ripped off by companies selling "dietary supplements"
or "food" in pill form same making unsupported and even obviously false claims.

For example my local store had started carrying homeopathic "food" pills.
The idea behind homeopathy is to give the patient a little more of
whatever caused the problem. So for lead poisoning you'd eat more lead.
Obviously that just makes you more sick. Someone I knew bought a homeopathic "remedy" for a infection. Active ingredient? Yeast.
Obviously if you have a problem with too much yeast, adding more yeast isn't going to help!
I'm glad the FDA is going after medicinal claims on "foods" for
for that reason, even though they probably didn't need to worry about the walnuts.

To be fair, homeopathic "treatments" are 99.99999% water, so the extremely
tiny amount of the active (damaging) ingredient probably won't really hurt,
but it can't possibly help and they are ripping off sick people.

i pretty much dont listen to anything the government suggests for eating whatsoever. and i dont take pharmaceuticals unless im on my death bed with a fever or sickness that cant be broken. we are indirectly forcing mutations in our bodies to occur with these genetically modified foods, steroids, chemicals/preservatives.
