Trip advice needed, San Francisco.

Headed out to San Fransisco for a bit of business and pleasure,

was trying to align the date with the perfect temp's of Indian Summer.

Would be really appreciative if anyone knew the "ideal" date to go for the best weather, the least tourists, and some decent events. I know there are some locals on here, perhaps they could tell me which things to avoid at the very least. Best places to eat? Best places to score a bag of nugs? You know.. the necessities in life.

I already have a few "touristy" things lined up.. was hoping for some additional input.

Much appreciation for any helpful comments!

I've lived in SF since 1995 and the ideal time to come for a visit is early-mid October. It's the best weather we have all year.

Any time during the summer is nice and cool.

If your gonna do the cable car, don't do the tourist thing and wait in line for an hour. Go to one of the stops and buy your tickets directly from the cable car itself. Much easier.

Anytime between July and Oct are the warmest and least rain. Technically September is the warmest month. Avoid the Wharf, Union Square, etc to avoid lots of tourists.

Too many good places to eat for me to even make a recommendation. I think this city has more good food than any other city in the world.

Yeah, see.. Alcatraz is the kind of thing I'm trying to avoid like the plague. Looking for beautiful land, less people, more enjoyment and relaxation. But I'll definitely be getting the pass as mentioned and NOT waiting in line for an hour

also awesome hiking trails here:

Yes the Wharf is infested, it's like being in hel, you can barely walk down the sidewalk without running into someone that thinks a sidewalk is for standing in the middle of and blocking it. Unlike other less touristy areas, where people know what walking is and how to do it properly.

Check out Golden Boy Pizza in North Beach, killer slices

Rent a car and drive south on Hwy 1.

After you get back to SF, do the same thing, only go north.

San Francisco is a great place to eat--lots of good restaurants, especially neighborhood places. I'm not a big fan of Chinese food, so I save my Chinese food cravings for my frequent visits to SF. But it's not Paris, or Lyon, or Bologna, or Rome, etc., etc., etc.
