Goodbye piratebay, hello bayfiles.com

http://www.xbiz.com/news/138061

BayFiles says it offers a legal service because it is compliant with the Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA), which provides a mechanism to report unauthorized uploads of copyrighted material and have them removed

Another cyberlocker, good stuff...

file lockers aren't long for the world either. the idea of allowing anonymous hosting, and screaming "someone else did it" every time they get caught won't hold legal water forever.

No thanks.. I will continue using Pirate Bay for all the latest pirated software.. movies.. mp3's and anything else that catches my eye ...
Just like a majority of the self-righteous people here but they'll deny it of course ...

Your reply does not make sense since both services are doing the same thing. Distributing content.

I think the point here was that torrents are a better platform, so why stop.

im not a whole lot into torrents but the article says:

?BitTorrent is increasingly throttled or even filtered by ISPs, HTTP usually is not,? Neij told TorrentFreak."

So that migth be the reason? Personally I think the file lockers are a far bigger treat to us then torrents anyways.

well here is the thing, a lot of people are using file lockers already right. Now there is still a lot of people who never heard of them and TBP is a perfect platform to pass the message to those who were not in the know creating an even bigger problem then it is already.

So the fact that there is another filelocker coming out is not that much news, that TPB is doing it is whats the news as they get all the mainstream attention

It seems to be really legal: BayFiles says it offers a legal service because it is compliant with the Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA), which provides a mechanism to report unauthorized uploads of copyrighted material and have them removed

Same old song and dance amongst thieves.

a) Launder money
b) Take proceeds from said illegal money
c) Wash with new legal venture
d) Continue to make money

It's on prq though so doubt they will honor shit.
I take take that back. This is not torrents and MPAA would be all up inside their ass again. We'll see.

I must agree,

I still think torrents are a more reliable platform.

But he's right about the throttling, it's an ever increasing issue to deal with.

Correct. Are you insinuating there's not a difference between torrents and archives or mp4s?

Aren't torrents easier to track? I thought that's how all the large studios found people out.

From my understanding, downloading from a site like megaupload is pretty impossible to track unless megaupload was issued a court order of some sort.

I'm not sure on this. Was just my assumption. I'd personally prefer to download from a file locker vs torrents.

Without wanting to contradict the professional who already replied, I thought tbp hosted torrent files. Which are not copyrighted content. I could be wrong but I don't think you can serve a DMCA notice to someone who isn't hosting your content.

(Although, yes, DMCA = American law, not international).

Any dickhead can download using HTTP but torrents are different and people assume they'll get sued for uploading.

I dunno. I'm using the actual Bit Torrent client and I actually get faster download times than I do when downloading from a website.

This.

Also, everyone knows how to use a browser or "The Internet" as most know it as.. Try explaining uTorrent to someone like that and you'll hear crickets. I know so many people that have no clue what a torrent is.. oh they've heard of it, but it's too complicated to figure out.

You don't need a tracker anymore - DHT got invented because MPAA took down torrent megatrackers with ease. Now you can upload the torrent file on one tracker and as long as you have seeds, your client will "discover" and "put together" the hash value which will build the torrent information in YOUR client.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Distributed_hash_table

"Magnet Links" use DHT - Load uTorrent, click ADD URL button and punch it in and see what happens... it's neat how it figures it out. Click on trackers tab while downloading and you'll see NO trackers listed. Of course the more popular a file is the quicker it will "discover" the information and begin download.

magnet:?xt=urn:btih:1041e9ea6c98e10db18a25ebc02291 1bbc384d68

This is why regular people don't want to be bothered with torrents, it can be confusing.

DHT only works on public trackers though.

This is true and happens all around the world, I always see guys complaining about it on expat forums. Some ISPs totally block torrents.
