As usual, I was right. NASA to become Militarized.

Check it out...

MrPopup right on the ball as usual.

Didnt I just predict this a few hours ago?

http://gofuckyourself.com/showthread...hreadid=104274

Pathetic really. We're witnessing the end of era of the "exploration" of space as we transition to the "exploitation" and "militarization" of space.

Jeebus help us if theres oil on the moon because I can already sense THE MAN IN THE MOON will be the next dictator that threatens the freedom and democracy of the world.....

Bush to Propose Budget Increase for NASA
WASHINGTON (Reuters) - President Bush will propose a nearly $470 million boost in NASA's budget for fiscal 2004, an administration official said on Sunday, promising investigators would look into whether past cutbacks played any part in the space shuttle Columbia disaster.

The disaster has prompted calls for increased spending to upgrade the aging shuttle fleet and develop a new space plane. Columbia broke up over Texas on Saturday, killing all seven astronauts aboard, just 16 minutes before it was due to land in Florida.

While NASA's budget has been reduced over the past decade, a senior administration official said Bush would boost funding for the space agency by almost $470 million to $15.47 billion in his fiscal 2004 budget.

i don't see militarization involved (just based on your post) - i was expecting some sort of national guard type shit involved, like having men with guns guarding the space shuttle would have helped

although i wouldn't put it past bush to nominate that idea...

Then we could investigate whether any of the astronauts carried tweezers onto their flight or not.

I am merely referring to the "exploration" notion that up-until-now was the front for NASA

Without military involvement the shuttle program would not be where it is today. Probably 90% of the experiments done on the shuttle are military. Who knows what kind of exotic satelite weapons are in orbit right now. Didn't the military confirm that the used a laser to defeat a round from a howitzer or something like that? Whatever they admit to rest assured they have similar weapons that are much more advanced. I would bet money there is a satelite in orbit capable of taking out ground based targets with 100% accuracy. Or at least a satelite that can laser ping targets, with the weapon being dropped by high flying bombers that are well out of range of any SAM systems.

I beg to differ on ex military being astronauts....there were at least three on the craft that were active military. The others being "civilians".

The best one was "Bush declares America pornography free by 2005." Did you catch that one? I think the article was about abortion.

I've been wondering this for the past 10 years. Why even go to war with troops at this point. It's not necassary. We could terrorize any country into submission with our remote control military utilities so what's the point of sending John Boy and Leroy to the shitty little countries to risk breaking an ankle at $100 a day or more per soldier?

How do we know they have not been used? Part of warfare over the ages has been nations having bigger balls when threat of war looms, when that nation has new technology or "secret weapons" so to speak. Germany had several new weapons and technologies prior to WWW2. Bush had F117, Stealth bombers and the most advanced smart weapons on the planet. Of course the dog with the biggest weapons has the biggest balls, especailly when the enemy is not aware of them.

And I'm sure that the Military pays NASA for all those satellites it puts up there, and particle weapons, and what ever else we DON'T know about. NASA IS MILITARY always has been always will be. Its just candy coated. You actually think we would let another country have more control over the space surrounding our planet then us?

Because whipping up the masses into a vengeful furor that sparks economic growth is impossible by just pushing a few buttons.

Until the Gulf War nobody knew the capability of the F117. It went in kicked ass and took names. Look at how big Bush's balls have been lately. Think there are new weapons that are ready? I think so. Imagine if there is a satelite that can ping targets from orbit. What happened to all the old ICBM launch systems? But a 1000 pound bomb in the warhead, launch them form the US. The satelite pings the target, the rocket releases the smart bomb from 150k feet or so. The smart bomb then just follows the laser ping to the target. The controlers are sitting in a office somewhere in the US. Look at how cheap it would be to make rocket systems that simply take a smart bomb into orbit above a target, drop the bomb, then let this satelite guide it to it's target with the controller at a computer display safely in the US

The increase in budget for Nasa is not new. That budget has gotten an increase of 600 million the past 2 years if am not mistaken. So your post of 400+ increase would be a budget cut. that's Govt. math.

I think those use a different method. They are not as accurate as laser guided but are all weather. Laser guided is not all weather as the operater has to see the target to ping it. Maybe I am wrong but I do not think satelites are involved in the JDAD systems.

Ah now I remember, JDAD uses the global positioning satelites. Not as accurate as actual pinging of the target. They can miss the target by as much as 50 feet or more. I am refering to a possible satelite system that actually pings the target with a laser beam or something along those lines.

It is a good thing isn't it? I think national defense is one of the most important factors in the United States right now. It would really suck for some small pox infected suicide terroist to attend a major sporting event for example.
Investing in technology such as missile defense is very important being missile guidance technology will become more available to other countries which may be hostile in the future

They needed to develope a different smart bomb, because the JDADs frequency can be jammed with some kind of device. I remember hearing about it. Prehaps the one you are talking about is the replacement

LOL, you must watch the discovery channel while you work too. Yes I am saying that if a satelite can ping the target, it can't be jammed. We know cameras on satelites can see very small details. It would not take much to put lasers that ping targets on those same cameras. This would allow operaters to ping the target from anywhere in the world. Then it's only a matter of getting the smart bomb close to the target. Cheap rockets can do this easily. They would only need a cheap simple navigation system to get them close to the target. Think about this, our soldiers could sit at computer consoles in the US and bomb any nation to submission without ever having to leave the US.

I never thought I would see a jet slam into a tower, but it happened. I dont want to live in a place where people strap bombs to themselves and kill innocent people. I wish it was fiction but that is the unfortunate reality of the world today. National defense is extremely important.

Yes the discovery channel, I believe the smart bomb program was followed by the bio/chem protection and alert program.

Maybe you should notify NATO about your idea, maybe they haven't thought of that yet.

Sadly some brave american lives will be lost in the effort to protect people from future terroist events. The soldiers are prepared to fight get paid to fight. Women and children getting killed in result from a terroist attack is different.

The wealth and strength of this country didnt come from avoiding world affairs.
