Studies show that males with no children often have a negative or neutral response to children; in effect they are playing at being a father for the mother's approval. If they are extraordinarily giving individuals they might be able to hold up the act, but in general the result is a favored child and a less favored step child.

Children are also at a MUCH greater risk of being hurt or killed by stepfathers

One of my best friends recently did this when he met a chick. (well when i say best friend, that was before he turned into a pussy).

i'm not saying don't adopt a child - that is a very noble and great thing to take in a parent-less child as your own whether it's an infant or a 12 year old.

optimal for a child and parents is to adopt before the child is old enough to know what adoption is. i also don't believe kids should be told they're adopted until adulthood or there is a medical reason. i have cousins that never knew they were adopted until they were well into their 30's. not sure why at that point they were told.

But i think your argument is more that if a man already has kids and gains someone else's he is decreasing his chances of genetic success. I am not sure that theory holds much water. If so does having more than one child increase or decrease your chances of genetic success ?

Lets say i have 1 child and marry a woman with 2 children. Does my child now only get 1/3 the resources because i have to share time/money with 3 children instead of 1 ? Wouldn't the same hold true if i had 3 children of my own ?

using the same logic. If i make 100k a year and have 3 children on my own , they each get 1/3 of that ( approx 33k ). If i marry a woman who has 1 child and also makes 100k , the combined earnings would be 200k / 4 , so now each of my children will have 50k
