Olympic Games

How much interest do you have in them ?

http://www.london2012.com/

With 190 days to go, the constant media attention, the HUGE cost, the amount of security needed and whatever else, i'll be glad when the whole damn thing is over.

I hardly watch any of the events, and think most of them nowadays are actually ridiculous, and shouldn't even be considered for an "olympic event".

This was on the news today:

Boats of marines and Royal Navy helicopters have been carrying out drills on the River Thames in preparation for the London 2012 Olympic Games.

The overall cost of all of this is going to be off the scale. Not bad considering our economy is fucked.

Will you be watching ??

I watch the winter games and tend to ignore the summer games

Plenty.

I make it a point to watch as many events as possible in fact. The Olympics fascinate me, right down to even the most insignificant competitions. Always have, but after actually being at the Montreal games in '76 it changed me forever.

I find people who complain about the games are those who just don't get it. The world needs more events that brings all countries together in the spirit of friendly competition, not less.

Very much looking forward to it.

I just don't have much interest in who can run 0.01 seconds faster than someone else.

I get how competitive it is, and how hard people train for years to be ready, but it just doesn't keep my attention for long.

I couldn't care less how many Gold medals the UK wins...

When it comes down to who is the best in the world at that or any other event it becomes a whole different level of interest, for me anyway. And the world record is often set at the Olymics.

Well as I said not everyone gets it. But I've found in the past that that tends to change, when for example a younger member of one's own family makes it to the Olympics. Then that event they're in becomes the superbowl to you.

It hasn't happened to me or my family yet, but I know a few who it has happened to. Interesting story in fact, a longtime friend of mine from Red Deer Alberta recently located her half sister after over 30 years of not knowing she had one. Not only that but her newfound sister has children, and one of her daughters was competing in the 2010 Winter Olympics in the women's luge. I tell you, I never paid all that much attention to the luge before but I sure made a point to watch it during those games. (she didn't medal but aquitted herself well for Canada).

Interesting. But that may change for you too. Something is different when the games are on your own home soil. You start seeing all the national pride going on all around you, it can really change a person.

Give it a chance, anyway. And if you still find it completely useless and boring then at least find a way to make some bank off it. There'll be about 3 million extra people visiting London and it's environs that month, all looking to spend $. Get on it. :D

I have every intention of doing just that...
