Alabama Unemployment Rate FALLS as illegal alien crackdown continues...

Time to put our thinking hats on, boys and girls. The key here is: is this a mere CORRELATION or CAUSATION. If you think it's causation, what DIRECTION is the causation...

News: http://dailycaller.com/2012/01/20/al...-unemployment/
Quote:
Alabama?s unemployment rate continues to drop amid state-wide enforcement of a new immigration law, despite Democratic efforts to block and stigmatize the popular reform.

December?s unemployment rate fell to 8.1 percent, down from 8.7 percent in November and 9.8 percent in September.

?In the last three months alone, we?ve seen an unprecedented drop of 1.7 percentage points,? noted Alabama Republican Gov. Robert Bentley in a Jan. 20 statement.

What other factors can you think of which would explain the drop besides the illegal alien crackdown law?

Here's a hint: look at unemployment rate patterns at many other states (without an illegal alien crackdown)... Is there a pattern?

Who would of thunk it The next thing you know health insurance rates will drop, quality of care will rise, social programs for the poor will actually have money, and we'll be able to take care of legal citizens.

Some of the fallout is faintly comical. A Mercedes-Benz executive visiting from Germany was arrested in Tuscaloosa while driving without proper ID and taken to jail on suspicion of being an illegal immigrant. He was eventually freed, but not before Alabama's governor got involved because Mercedes is one of several automakers with Alabama plants crucial to the state's economy.

Less amusing was what happened to a veteran who had just come home from Afghanistan and was trying to get license plates for his new truck. Because the new law doesn't recognize military IDs, he was told he'd have to come back with his birth certificate. (You don't have to be a citizen to serve.)
http://www.usatoday.com/news/opinion...nts/51643358/1

...

Meanwhile, the Obama administration has deported more than a million undocumented immigrants and is on a pace to send home more in one term than President Bush did in two.

...

Chasing away productive, longtime, law-abiding residents, many of whom have children who are U.S. citizens, serves no useful purpose. GOP presidential hopeful Newt Gingrich is the latest to suggest a plan to grant them some form of legal status.

They need to crackdown here in Los Angeles. We live in a illegal alien sanctuary city. They have taken our apartments, good jobs, medical assistant jobs, secretary, food industry, hotel industry jobs etc.

John and Ken one day had illegals call in to tell them what kind of jobs they had in California. I was shocked to find out some where paralegals, medical assistants, grocery store clerks and managers and the list goes on. That's contrary to the belief they take jobs americans don't want which is bullshit.

They get away with it by using fake or stolen social security numbers. Allot of them borrow there friends social security numbers to get jobs. There's a huge criminal network in Los Angeles of people who steal identities and most are illegals.

It makes me sick that no one gives a shit and they are allowed to do this and when they get caught nothing happens.

I'm an American and if I got caught with identity theft i get thrown in jail or prison.

Now our wonderful new governor backed by Obama the worst president in history have signed a bill giving illegal aliens access to 100 million dollars in taxpayer money to pay for there education. I don't even qualify for financial aid but these losers get to break the law, evade the IRS, steal peoples identities and get awarded with free college money!!!

To put the icing on the cake they just signed a law if an illegal get's pulled over without having a drivers license the police cannot impound there vehicle. Now If I leave my drivers license at home even though I have a license my car can be impounded and if I don't have a license I get ticketed and my car gets impounded and auctioned off.

I'm not racist I have friends that are mexicans and some family that are as well, but I hate illegal loser aliens. They should all be prosecuted and sent back home

I've been saying this for years. Get rid of illegals and jobless rate will go down.

I live on the westside of LA and neighborhoods have turned to poo since the mass migration from AZ started 2 years ago. Its not being racist, its just stating FACT.

We have to lock everything up, bolt it down and not leave it in the car. I lost a $1000 custom rim, tire and cover off the back of the RAV last year. Suddenly, RAVs all over west LA are driving around with no door tires.

I would say we need to invade Mexico and return the country to the people, but then that would be total anarchy. I read an article recently where Mexican politicians are gloating they've dumped their excess on US and now Mexico is prospering. For them and our corrupt leadership anyway.

So spare me all your pro illegal immigrant rhetoric. You can kiss my ass.
New enforcement needs to be in place to secure the lives of natural citizens, naturalized citizens and LEGAL immigrants.

Just my personal opinion. It is 2012. We can no longer sustain the flooding from the south. Its just not practical.

I am 1000% PRO LEGAL Immigration. My wife is an immigrant. We have to pay $500 this year for a green card renewal. How much do illegal pieces of shit have to pay?

so that is a yes you do support illegals.

it took 11+ years for my dad to become a citizen, and he did it through the legal process. all illegals should be kicked out. if he can do it so can they.

if they do not meet the qualifications they do not deserve to be there in the first place. you wreak of personal family as illegals.

Of course, you're right. Let's make marijuana a capital crime, export all the muslims, prosecute all the gays and make Jesus the State religion too.

Our country isn't crumbling because of immigrants. It's crumbling because of debt, the high cost of wars, the economic crisis.

Right, and maybe Newt/Bush had the right idea to make some changes to enable some of them to be granted a legal status.

That's not exactly what Gingrich said during Friday's debate, you're starting to sound like a Fox News report. Gingrich said he would create a residency permit for illegal immigrants who have been in the country for 25 years and have worked and paid taxes. The applicant would have to be sponsored by an American family and reviewed by a panel of local citizens.

Oh, and the Mercedes-Benz exec was driving a rental car with no tags. When he got stopped he had no valid ID or valid drivers license.

Doesn't matter who it was really. Had it been you, me, anyone, we would have been arrested.

Since the Obama administration will have sent home more in one term than Bush did in two terms, shouldn't U.S. unemployment have dropped more during the Obama administration?

I think you guys just don't like Carlos Mencia. Admit it.

In October, Alabama's unemployment rate declined from 9.8 percent to 9.3 percent. That half-percentage point drop tied Alabama with Michigan and Minnesota for the biggest declines in the nation.

In November, Alabama's rate went down again to 8.7 percent, which is the lowest since February 2009. The drop of 0.6 percentage points tied Alabama with Minnesota, South Carolina and Utah for the second-biggest drop. Michigan was No. 1 at 0.8 percentage points, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.
Must be all those illegals in Michigan and Minnesota or South Carolina and Utah!

Correlation does not imply causation.

Yes, all of my relatives including myself are illegal immigrants.

How much of that was due to retailers hiring seasonal help for the holidays? And.how many.peoples unemployment benefits ran out thus droping them from those counted as unemployed

Now, we're getting somewhere. We need more DATA.

Remember, guys and gals, CORRELATION does not necessarily mean CAUSATION. Also, when reviewing CAUSATION, look for the direction of the causation. Did A cause B or is it the other way around?

From the report...

After many residents fled, farmers who relied heavily on undocumented workers, were left without hands to tend to their crops. Some hired unemployed U.S. citizens Alabama governor Robert Bentley's urging to do the work, but after two weeks, many farmers found the experiment had failed because the new workers didn't lacked the stamina to stay on the job. Some of the new workers showed up late, worked slower than veteran workers and even quit after one day.

Without seasoned workers to handle their farms, some Alabama farmers say they've already lost hundreds of thousands of dollars in the wake of the law. Chad Smith, an Alabama farmer, estimates he's lost $300,000 because of labor shortages caused by the law, according to CAP.

All predictable.

Rabbits are going to be pulled from Obama's ass and he will temporarily walk on water to get elected again. Then it's four more years of the same shit we just went through.

CORRELATION is not CAUSATION.

Unemployment rates are dropping all over the country, not just in Alabama. Get over it - Obama's plans are working and working well.

I fail to understand why there is any discussion about this at all. If your not a US citizen, you must be here on a visa or a passport. If your not a US citizen, not here on a visa, or visiting on a passport, your in the country illegally and your a criminal. Period.

When I visit Germany, I am a guest there and I need to carry my passport with me at all times. Visit another country, carry your passport with you at all times. It's common sense. I always carry my passport when I travel down to Mexico. This is no different. If he's not a US citizen, and cannot produce a passport, police cannot determine if he is in the US legally and he must be confined until they can verify that.

In LA , if you get pulled over, they impound your car, unless you are an illegal alien, then, they don't impound your car?

You didn't read that article did you? The article says they're allowing unlicensed drivers (legal or illegal) time to get someone else to drive the car home for you, when stopped at a sobriety checkpoint.

Looks like someone is paying attention. Somebody please post the unemployment rate declines across all states. Also, rate differentials in industries that typically attract illegal labor.

I read the article, I live in LA, The first thing the LAPD will threaten you with is impounding your car for 30 days. The article, decision was based on illegal aliens complaining about their rights in a country they are here illegally in. Please name another country where this happens?

I don't have any problem with hispanics, love the food, don't understand the music, the girls are sometimes very hot. I just don't like the drain on the economy and all the signs in Spanish. When I was in Amsterdam, more people spoke english than in LA. Half the radio stations are spanish and many tv stations.

Your statement isn't true, according to your article.

They make people believe the unemployment rate goes down because of the new immigration law... so funny!

I hope you don't believe they were honest when they were talking about massive destruction weapons in Irak?

Your right, but doesn't it bother you that policy was changed on impounding cars because of the rights of people by law aren't suppose to be here?

It amazes me that people here illegally can influence the law of those here legally

No, it doesn't bother me. It's a good change that benefits everyone, regardless of the catalyst. Laws that make sense should be applauded, no matter how it comes about. Laws that don't make sense should be ridiculed, even if the most respectable lawmakers came up with it.

Still no stats?

I use FFVB and several responses are missing. lol Haters gonna hate lmbao

Anyway, it would be nice to factor in seasonality, labor cycles, and competing industries to see if this is just a CORRELATION, A CAUSATIVE RELATIONSHIP, and if it is a case of causation (not sure yet) what DIRECTION it takes.

Well it bothers me that people from another country can effect the laws in this country, it should be the people from this country.

While many think that shipping them all back to Mexico is a fix, I don't, it will never happen, and Obama shipping more back than any one else, hey good for him, it's still a drop in the bucket as it's getting worse, here's a good article from the LA times that taks about the cost of the California Law makers ignoring it all.

I mean if you want some revelent numbers, people are still pissed about 187

"We?ve seen an unprecedented drop of 1.7 percentage points,? noted Alabama Republican Gov. Robert Bentley".

It's so easy to distort figures when it supports your position. That being said, good for Alabama, regardless of the claims. Illegal immigrants are a plague.
