How are you finding good talented workers in the phillipines?

I'm looking for some people to do some work. On a tight budget so, was told to search in the phillipines - anyone have any ideas on how to find trustworthy hard working people who wish to be paid for their work? I'm looking and now sure how to go about it so if you could share how you found your people or if your people in the phillipines are available or interested in more work, I'd be ever so appreciative.

95% of them are a waste of time. If you're lucky enough to find one that stays on top of things and has skills, KEEP HIM AT ALL COSTS.

Good ones are out there, but they are in the minority.

What kind of work do you need done?

You will probably spend even more when you factor in your time spent supervising and then having to deal with delays, which are almost guaranteed. I am sure you can find someone more qualified and they will not end up being that much more costly in the long run.

i have really bad experiences with ppl from the philippines.. i would not trust them..
I wanted to hire some chat trafficers, and they all wanted $50 pps, they said otherwise its not worth their time- which is bullshit, looking at the avarage income of philippines ppl..

thats because the handlers who third party it want more money. they will take the $50 PPS and pay the idiot doing the work $4. it is much more cost effective to have a regular designer who will give you good prices for regular work.

I have clients that I regularly do same day ad delivery for, i dont charge them rush prices (actually charge them less all around) because they come to me with work every single week - unless you work with your designer closely you will never achieve the results you seek.

Anyone who needs ads and open communication with their designer hit me up.

I mean look on gfy, the most expensive "designers" are actually a company where third party fronts the company and doesnt do the work... LAME. you end up paying more as a client because third party, same with outsourcers....

What kind of jobs are you guys trying to hire out? I hire skilled employees for my mainstream business and a lot of grunt workers for adult. I hired American first, all it got me was a migraine.

I did run a cheap design company on Filipino designers. Both were good, one was brilliant and needed a push in the right direction but I never had a problem with them aside from the random internet outages. I had to manage them a lot more but this was years ago.

Depending on what you want you can look in the help wanted/for hire section here on GFY or in the services section. Make a post and you will get a ton of responses. half of them will be flakes or just want to make some quick cash.

1) Never prepay, but pay weekly or bi-weekly. This prevents them from slacking off and trying to rush around payday.

2) Most filipinos will hold down a few jobs at once, without telling you. Its the easy way to aggregate money. They know they are much cheaper than US employees and chances are you won't be as upset if they are less productive than a US employee. Manage them well, a loyal Filipino employee can really help you.

3) Provide as much detail as you can with your projects. While they do speak English, it is not their first language. Chances are you will get frustrated if you expect them to "use common sense" and elaborate on a project from a very simple description. In time you will know them better and can adjust your project details accordingly

4) Use software like basecamphq.com to manage your projects and something like Timedoctor.com to track their work hours. You can thank me later.

Sharky nailed it, they just do not understand this business or a lot of things we just understand. Don't assume they can connect the dots and give full instructions. They will get used to working with you and pick up on things more easily as well.

Here's a question - for appointment setters (cold callers) from the phillipines, what is a good phone solution? One where the number is a US number but it routes to a phillipine number and, when the contractor makes a call appears to be a US number? Dell and all the big outsourcers have that, but is there an off the shelf solution?

THANK YOU - re my site. I Know it needs some love, I spent the last two years branding and slaving away for another model when I should have just kept Lushboobs.com up to date. It's having its' 10 year anniversary in a few months - considering a relaunch with fresh content... so much for producing instead of modeling =/

thank you for the advice! (and - am using elevated-x with non exclusive content purchased from around the world, to launch 6 new sites - which is why I need the help - ALL what you like - how did you say it, " floppy tit sites " lol ya those. )

I know you said to do it later but I'm also going to thank you now for the excellent advice. I have a lot to think about.. normally I just do every job myself, from production to modeling to post production, all of it - but it's SLOW when 1 person is doing 10 jobs =/ so.. that's why I was considering outsourcing, but if the management of the people is a hassle then maybe that time would be better spent just doing the work myself. sigh. I'll look into everything you've suggested sparky - and on a side note - you kinda look like my BF from high school, just sayin..

You can use stuff like Ring Central to give them a virtual phone that they can dial over the internet. I use auto dialers where the employee just logs into a webpage where he can then receive calls as people answer the phone, can put any number for the caller ID.

How much are you paying for cold callers? We lease out the whole operation and I might be able to beat your pricing on employees with everything included.

Im in the US and I could NOT disagree more with the people saying that hiring philip/indian labor is a waste of time - I have found GREAT HELP over there.

However you have to be prepared to have a few duds before you find the gems.

I have great hardworking and loyal guys for 9 bucks an hour (hardcore coders) - dont listen to the naysayers.

A few? I've found ONE Filipino worker who could provide some decent quality and he ended up working for me for two years. Tens of others ended up being a complete waste of time and money.

As for Indians, I am yet to find one who can provide any half-ass decent quality.

I currently hire East Europeans mostly, with an occasional US/Ca/UK college kid. Sure, aside from the latter, none of these have English as their first language. But wouldn't you know, they understand it way better than Filipinos and Indians (both of whom have it as an official language in their countries) and rarely, if ever, fuck up. Oh and guess what, I end up paying the same or, in some cases, even less.

I have a contact there, if he has the same email address ( eastern europe) he worked on the btg cms and a few others. I wonder if he can edit smarty templates. I'm using elevated X and mojo host, pretty sure i'm set up for greatness, just have 10 years in this already and it's becoming tiring waiting for it.. so, let's hope 2012 is the year.. and thank you for all the valuable advice, I honestly should have been visiting gfy WAY WAY more often since I've been a member for the last 9 years. oops.
