question: SEO for a global site

im starting a project together with a mainstream company that sells exclusive products aimed at big businesses like hotels, local governments, generally the wealthy. We want the site to be global. I've only got experience with sites aimed at the US or the Netherlands, so 1 language.

What is the best way to cover as much countries as possible when we look at:
Domain: .com domain name, or maybe a .eu?
Domainname: Have the english keyword in there? But then we have all the non english countries with people who are not searching for the english word. So I was thinking, maybe it's better to only use the brandname as domain.

Ofcourse the best option would be to register all prominent country tld's and make a site for each of those countries, but it wouldn't be efficient as for work. You've got alot of sites to build links for and maintain and when you really want to cover the whole world it's just too much.

So here's my take on this: brandname.com or .eu & language selector. Maybe redirect every countries' visitors to their language page, for instance domain.com/de/, domain.com/us/ etc.

what do you think?
