Filming Porn In LA

I was reading somewhere online where it said you need a filming permit to film porn. I think that might only apply to big studio production I can't imagine the city requiring it for a small amateur production in a hotel room.

Once you get the permit they have to notify all the neighbors of the production which i think is a huge invasion of privacy.

Is there a way around this?

yes. There is a way around it, but it's not legal. 1) get a cam. 2) get a girl. 3) film. 4) repeat.

And yes technically, you do need a permit, but I think that's for sex work, not solo work... but I could be wrong.

A client of mine got picked up and tossed in Jail for shooting a scene without a permit.

How much time did he get and how did they find out? Do you know if you have to keep a copy of the permit with the 2257 information?

Most film without permits and just plan on not getting caught.
Why would anyone need to keep a permit along with 2257? Have you seen a law anywhere that says so. 2257 is also at the federal level and permits are at a city or county level.

As for any huge invasion of privacy, you lost me.

think it's $1200 for 14 days with prior notice on each location. you can get yearly permits to shoot on county/city property (very small productions with no barriers) and it's like $35 a year to shoot in the mountains with a crew of less than 10 (with no barriers) I was told it's very difficult to permit a location any more. you can blame reality tv for that

When you get a film permit in Los Angeles they have to notify all your neighbors of the filming. If any of them have a problem with porn they may cause problems on the filming date. Who you fuck in your own home should not be your neighbors business.

So if you want to film a amateur BJ scene with girl you met from CL they expect you to pay over $1,000 for the permit, plus $350 for your talent and expect you to make a profit? No wonder why everyone is moving out of LA what a fucking joke.

LA does provide the protection of it actually being legal to shoot porn there. I also think you are not really going over the whole permit thing that well. I seriously doubt anyone is paying a grand for a 2 hour shoot somewhere. I figure if they are paying that much odds are it is for a lot longer period of time and then the shooter would typically produce a lot more material than 1 POV scene.

I've had exactly the opposite experience... in LA no one cared, but in Vegas, security was dispatched as soon as the hotel suspected ANYTHING.

As soon as you get a permit in LA the cops WILL show up and harass. Just because. Happens to me every time. I don't get a permit unless the location demands it, and often I then move the shoot. Its not worth it. I have been "busted" a few times shooting without a permit and I was never fined. They just ID the girl if she looks young.

Shooting in LA hotels is way easier than Vegas. According to the Venetian shooting in hotel rooms in Vegas it is illegal, while in LA it is just against policy. The nicer hotels are the ones you have to be most careful in.

that's right. if you don't own the property you must have the owners permission. LA is one of the most filmed locations in the world. if you set up a tripod or look professional in anyway the cops or security shut you down immediately. I've been shut down 5-6 times around LA for simple shoots. I was shooting stills at 7 am sunday morn and got shut down by the cops once.

yes I know the reality sites shoot around however it's not professional videography (and looks it too BTW)

your lucky, $2500 fine first offense is what I was told. I've gotten permits to shoot in parks and never been bothered at all. of course I never tell them it's adult either

It is not legal to shoot porn at all in Vegas, if you are caught you will go to Jail for shooting porn in Las Vegas. Technically shooting porn is only Legal in California and as of a couple of years ago New York. A judge acknowledged its legitimacy.

Done it before with no permit. I've always kept it small and never disclosed the locations.

Yeah...er, no. I'm not aware that it's illegal to film yourself fucking in any state in the Union. But only California made it officially "legal" Sort of like saying "breathing air" is legal in california but not in other states. lol

It's legal to shoot/produce porn in California due to the Freeman decision:

U.S. Supreme Court
California v. Freeman, 488 U.S. 1311 (1989)

No. A-602
Decided February 1, 1989
488 U.S. 1311

Syllabus

California's application for a stay of enforcement of the State Supreme Court's judgment reversing respondent Freeman's conviction for pandering under the California Penal Code pending the disposition of a petition for certiorari is denied. It is unlikely that four Justices would vote to grant certiorari, since the state court's decision rests on the adequate and independent state law ground that Freeman's hiring and paying of performers for pornographic films does not constitute pandering under the State Code. The court's discussion of state law is not interwoven with its discussion of federal law, specifically the First Amendment. Even if this Court were to review the case below and find that the state court had misinterpreted the strictures of the First Amendment, on remand that court would still reverse Freeman's conviction on state statutory law grounds.

this is like pornproduction101.. you guys are all pros

learn or buy permits thru this company:
filmlainc dot com

the rules are somewhat different for photography and for filming.
filming permit is much more expensive and elaborate, often involves the fire department etc.
a lot of producers get a photography permit which can be had for little money and can be for an extended period of time...

Yup this is it, the Freeman versus California case, I used this case in Missouri to have my charges dropped against me that they tried to put on me in 2004. Surprisingly enough, especially in Missouri, I beat that shit. But this was the case I brought up in court and the day before trial they called my attorney to drop the charges.

It's just filming without a permit not a criminal offence.

You obviously don't live in LV, LOL. Hookers run rampant and can only get arrested if a cop hears them solicit and will only get charged if it can be proven.

Metro PD here are lazy as fuck and nobody cares if anyone is filming porn.

We arent talking about hookers here we are talking about shooting porn there in LV, and legally its not legal and if caught you can go to jail. Regardless if they are lazy or not, if you get caught its a done deal. Doing your homework pays off versus hoping for the best outcome of them being lazy the day you decide to shoot.

Its a crap game, and crapping out is a very strong possibility.

B.S. You won't go to jail for getting "caught" shooting porn in Las Vegas. lol There are several full blown production studios right here in town with legit business licenses. I have shot in so many states in this country that it's not even funny and have had zero problems.

And how the hell do you get "caught" anyway? lol I'm there, Claudia-Marie is there, and usually one male talent. Yeah, this country is fucking turning into a prison....but there are still a few freedoms left.

What are the cops gonna do? Bust into a hotel room where a husband and wife might have their vid cam on a tripod to film themselves fucking? Nigga please...

So many idiots in this world its a damn shame, you wont be satisfied until an example is made out of you. Grab a damn book. Attend the damn convention seminars, speak with a First Amendment Attorney, Call Jeffrey Douglas, Call Paul Cambria, Call Walter Lawrence, I have spoken with them all personally and I have read many cases on law regarding this industry.

You have a lot to learn about the laws but I wont educate you, just cause something hasnt happened doesnt mean its not possible or couldnt happen. Anyone can obtain a business license doesnt mean WTF they are doing is suppose to be conducted. I can obtain a business license to sell plants and flowers, that doesnt mean that Im suppose to be growing and selling marijuana plants. Silly Rabbit Tricks are for kids. I will say this for the final time, TECHNICALLY SHOOTING PORN IS ONLY LEGAL IN THE STATES OF CALIFORNIA AND NEW YORK.

And here is an example of how you get caught, yes cops bust into a hotel room while you are doing just that because maybe without your knowledge or awareness someone seen you bringing in equipment and has become aware of your actions and decides to call the police upon suspicion, guess what, you go to jail. Its wonderful to know there are still some idiots out there who take this for a joke.

Also do everyone a favor and keep the "N" word out of the conversation, I believe we all can have an intelligent conversation whether we agree on a topic or not without using such ugly words. No need to get frustrated at your lack of knowledge, educate yourself first then worry about the money and hoes.

Its a crap game, and crapping out is a very strong possibility.
Post a link of a news article of someone getting arrested for shooting porn.

Hey buddy, you can get angry all day long. I just told you how it is, you can talk stupidity all day long. But the reality is this:
Yes, California is the only state that legalized shooting porn. But that does NOT mean that it's illegal anywhere else in the U.S. I have checked into every major hotel in Las Vegas WITH my camera equipment including lots of lighting gear and boom stands and had the bellman roll that shit right into my room.

I'll say this for you real slow....
If tomorrow, California decided to make drinking water legal...it still wouldn't make it ILLEGAL in the other states.

I live right here in the real world. I just told you in my last post that there are studios here. They aren't hidden in somebodies house. They are located in business buildings and operate 100% legit and have business licenses.

I just went to the Erotic Museum right off of Las Vegas Blvd. which is full of porn that has been produced since the first cameras were invented.

Again, I'm going to tell you that I do this for a living and you obviously read about it. Big difference. Now have a nice day and Go Fuck Yourself.

Well then good for you! Nine whole years. Wow. Have you ever shot anywhere outside of Cali?

Have you ever heard of Brandy Love? She is in North Carolina and her family caused some troubles with her because she has kids. They had to go to court to prove that just because they shoot porn doesn't mean that they aren't fit parents. They won the court case. And...oh yeah, I have to guess that since they were in court the cops knew that they were shooting porn.

Also in North Carolina I worked with Brian Lambert all through the 1990s' with Center Stage Productions. We did all the original Naughty Neighbors VHS and later DVD. Shot every damn bit of it in Charlotte, NC and had a staff of attorneys AND a business license and the authorities knew exactly what we did.

Take off your blinders and listen to what I'm saying...THEORETICALLY it's only legal in Cal. But it's NOT illegal everywhere else in the U.S.

And since you're such an experienced guy in this industry I'm guessing that you are here in Vegas now at the shows. Look for me tonight. I'm very easy to find.

Come and tell me how dumb I am. And you and I will go and present what we are saying to Fatrosi or maybe Bernstein as I have seen them both here. I'm sure that they will tell you the same thing I'm saying.

It is LEGAL in California. But whether or not it is illegal anywhere else is debatable. I've already told you that I DO shoot here. And I have shot pretty damn much all over the country and did so very openly. I'm not "lucky" or getting away with anything. Jesus man...

I used to worry about getting caught when I fist started shooting .

Ive now shot all over the place including las vegas

I have had hotel staff walk in on one of my videos by accident in a upscale hotel in NYC
nothing happened ....

same hotel weeks later I had a guy listening into what was going on outside the room I believe he was hotel staff and jerking off too the girl fucking .

If you act normal and conceal all your equipment & put the DND sign on hotel room door , you should be fine

If your really worried about getting caught or in trouble you might try another business

p.s - fuck a permit

Hell anal sex IS really illegal (laws on the books) in a lot of states. And I can guarantee you that pot and cocaine are illegal. And yet...I have a feeling while I'm looking at Claudia-Marie's big round ass that I may just do all of the above tonight. heh-heh Hope I don't get caught.

I've been hassled by the cops a few times in LA. As I shoot a lot of stills before the video usually, I tell the cops I'm just a photographer (you don't need a permit to shoot stills in someone's house), and come to the door of the location with a still camera in my hand as proof.

But one time we were hassled by a neighbor at the location and I got three visits from the cops in about four hours, and on the last visit they had a vice cop with them. The vice cop asked me if they could come in to check the performer's ID's and I asked him how long he'd been a vice cop. He told me two years, and I told him I was surprised because no experienced vice cop would think anyone would be shooting underage porn so blatantly. He looked really pissed, but they left me alone after that.

She knew I was shooting because she saw us pull up and unload the equipment. She had a beef with the guy we rented the location from, and was just a bitch about it. At one point I caught her looking over the fence when two of the porn chicks who lived at the house were skinny dipping. I told the cops that she was a peeping tom, but they ignored me as they seemed to be more concerned that I was shooting without a permit.

Shooting in LA hotels is way easier than Vegas. According to the Venetian shooting in hotel rooms in Vegas it is illegal, while in LA it is just against policy. The nicer hotels are the ones you have to be most careful in.
Thanks for the info.

Only California and New York now. Get caught shooting porn in California, they will fine you at most and thats if you do not have a permit, or if they arent assholes, they will do just that, ensure the performers are of legal age and be done with it.

Just check the law books, contact First Amendment attorneys, attend the legal seminars at the conventions. Dont take my word for it.

There is a lot done in Vegas, yes AEE (Adult Entertainment Expo and AVN Awards) is a convention that is held in Vegas. However its not legal to shoot porn in Las Vegas guys, goodluck with trying and if you do it successfully thats great. But if you get caught and something bad comes out of it just remember right here on GFY you were warned by someone who knows the truth.

Im not just a guy who picked up a camera and started shooting, I done my homework first, completely, and spoke with and held consultations with 3 of the top First Amendment attorneys in the industry before I began. Jeffrey Douglas, Paul Cambria and Lawrence Walters.
