Best laptop for $400 or cheaper..?

Looking for something to do a little bit of HD editing, and maybe stream some regular HD videos to my tv..

Not my area of expertise obviously.

Any help from the experts?

Much appreciation for any info at all.

I really doubt you could get a laptop to edit hd for that money. It would be horrible, if it is even possible. Certainly could stream hd to your tv, but not edit

You could do a desktop for that money that could cope, but not sure a lapper would fit the bill...

there is no laptop that will edit hd well for $400 your best bet in that price range would be a amd laptop the video in low end amd laptops kills anything you will find in a intel laptop.

your not going to find a very high grade processor for $400 maybe just an i3 , at least go for i5 , i7 is the best i7 extreme is the bestest , I didn't feel like waiting for mine to be made and take over 3 weeks for the i7 so I got the i5 still fast as fuck I can edit anything never had the computer slow down once , never had a freeze in any work and i do video editing, photo editing running dreamweaver, photoshop, illustrator, fireworks all at the same time with no problems .

Really appreciate the input.

cheap laptops are not made for editing HD there is no such thing as a good cheap laptop for HD editing.

building a decent workstation for editing HD would be a better idea

Please don't waste $400 on something that won't even come close to working.

Yeah, I think just because its cheap doesn't ALWAYS mean its a piece of shit, just most of the time

I know there are deals to be had.

Rob, how is the editing experience?

What about this..

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16834230240

I'm going to leave it at this..

I will be using this computer solely for editing small batches of HD video. I will be deleting all bloatware and anything else. I won't be running any other programs, just the editor.

How cheap can I get away with editing HD video with, if the entire computer is solely for this one task. I understand I might not have the quickest rendering time, but that is ok as long as it is somewhat acceptable timing. Doesn't have to be the fastest but definitely not the slowest either.

AMD.. Or i5? Any help or info is welcome.. I'm on the advertising side of thing, not tech.

if you look around you can find a sale with a amd quadcore cpu laptop with 4 gigs ram but you will want to spend $80-$100 and buy a ssd for the laptop you should be able to get the laptop and a 90-120 gig ssd for around $500 or so.

most of the cheaper laptop come with 5400 rpm hd's which will be slow as shit for anything like Encoding video.

there is no way to do what you want to do under $500 or so.....

Perhaps I'll have to go the desktop route to accomplish that price.

Any desktop suggestions?

AMD A-Series APUs is definitely faster than E-Series.
E-Series have been used mostly for netbooks.

You think this will have any issues editing HD?

Also looking into that Dell tip as well, thanks.

Maybe I should go with a desktop,

as I already have a monitor.

SO much different shit out there.. Confusing. Wish there was just an HD editing search category to eliminate the non useful listings.

It has hardware HD acceleration, so it probably shouldn't have issues.

What he said, just do a search for "laptop" on Slickdeals and even if it isn't a front page deal you'll still find some good savings. Every couple of months Dell outlet issues 20-25% off coupons and you can get some killer deals on laptops.

Whether you edit 1 scene a yeah or 200 a week, It doesn't matter. A $400 laptop just will NOT cut it. Ever try editing HD video on a weak system? Trust me, it's awful and 99% impossible without dropping frames, locking up the editing program and sometimes just plain ol system-wide lockup.

Build a cheapo desktop with good graphics card.

I just got the HP Pavilion g7. It has an AMD 3305 dual core processor, 4gb of ram, 17 inch screen and blu ray (not that you likely will need that) for $330. It works great for what I need, but the processor might be a little light for video editing.

However, you can get the quad core version for around $450 if you shop around.

Still, I think your best bet would be to go with a desktop. More power for less money. If you have the know how build it yourself so you can custom choose the parts.

Yeah it was a hell of a deal. It was on a 3 day sale for $369 down from $479. A friend of mine's wife works for the store that the sale was at so she gets a 10% discount. I saw they were going for $400+ on ebay so she and I quickly discussed hitting all the local area stores and buying a bunch of them then ebaying them for a nice little profit. Sadly, their systems are all connected and they track employee discounts. On items like this they are limited to one
