Ad networks that directly or indirectly fund piracy sites will run into very difficult times once they are held accountable for such behaviour. I have used this phrase before and I will use it again, slowly slowly catchy monkey.

Some file lockers have complex webs of corporate entities and use these to obtain merchant accounts by misleading the acquirers about the nature of payments. Others have long standing merchant relationships with acquirers which existed before acquirers became fully versed in the risk profile of file lockers.

There has been a lot of work undertaken by risk companies to educate acquirers and other parties within the card networks about the risks presented by the file locker industry. We have also lobbied banks hard when we become aware of relationships with file lockers. As a result it is very difficult to obtain merchant accounts for file lockers now.

There is still considerable work to be done in this area and it's a large, time consuming task that requires lots of meetings, a great deal of research and compilation of data.

Although we don't report them, there have been several high profile merchant terminations in recent weeks. One file locker was actually without any payment processing for about nine days as they scrambled to replace their last remaining merchant account.

There are very few file lockers accepting Paypal now. The most obvious of these is Mega and we along with other industry groups have expressed our displeasure at this arrangement. There is work going on in the background by third parties which will affect the future and viability of Mega going forward. Some of these things take a great deal of work to bring to a resolution and Mega is no exception.

AdultKing cannot single handedly save the industry but for the people who seriously think he hasn't made a difference consider all the assets Kim DotCom had and how he made his money. He made it selling premium memberships to people who wanted to download faster and more than the limits. Just what do you think most of those people wanted to download so much of? Porn, of course! Money was still being spent on porn but much of it was going to these filelockers instead of your pockets.

It's making a difference. Nuke ALL the illegal filelockers and maybe you get rid of 40% of the piracy. AK hasn't been able to do that but I would bet he got rid of at least 10% of it. 60%-70% of the other industry piracy is the tubes. He's not touching that right now but you have to give him credit for what he has done. It's more than any of us have done, myself included.

It's best not to comment on a lot of things, this way the pirates and their army of cowardly fake nick sympathisers will continue to completely underestimate our capabilities.

That said, a high profile file locker is now without any kind of payment processing (so inconvenient to be canned by your acquirer on a Friday afternoon). I guess the site is currently scrambling to replace their last remaining merchant accounts.

Judging by the post activity a nerve has been struck at UMB HQ and it seems the content thieves fueling their business are growing weary of connection, upload, php, and server errors.

It also appears in absence of Richard Humphrey, Rudy has taken to posting as ScrollDog and has released a inaccurate at best article with images from other stories that then transitions into a AK slam story.

There are reports of unanswered support tickets for weeks, WMZ payment issues to add to the coding and server issues mentioned above with UltraMegaBit.

It will take as long as it takes for the risk profile of file lockers to be significantly raised amongst acquirers.

This is happening progressively and it's much harder to get a merchant account for a file locker now than when this project began.

The existing file lockers have dozens or more merchant accounts and killing them off is a slow process. We're consistently working at shutting down payment options for file lockers but this is not a process which takes place quickly. It's painstaking, detailed and labour intensive work.
